Hello my sisters cavalier just failed emissions with high HC not to bad i can fix this. Now the other thing it failed was the pressure test!? I called the emissions tech. and he told me it's failing to hold pressure from the tank to the evap canister. I looked for it on ALLDATA but I can't find it.

Anybody have any ideas? where do i begin? Common failures that cause this? and does it go hand in hand with failing the HC test?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If it's an 00-02, and it comes up with a SES (Service Engine Soon/Check Engine) light, then it could be the the gas cap (replace it with a good one) or the wiring harness for the evaporative emissions valve. The wiring harness is on the passenger side of the car in the rear - you can see it if you crawl under the car. It has two wires (white and, I think, red? It's the only two-wire harness down there). One side goes to the solenoid (an angular gizmo with a tube that goes to the canister [the big oval box]) and the other plugs in to a connector on the body along with a couple other, larger, connectors. On these cars, the wires get stressed and can become intermittent. The harness isn't cheap, but the dealer will have it. Remember this is for an 00-02 Cavalier. You didn't mention what year your sister's car is. The part number is 22687059 (evaporative vent solenoid harness). Be sure to route the replacement wires as close to the body as possible - do not follow the same path under the original looms as the current harness.

Again, this is for an 00-02 Cavalier.
