What should be my first model?
Ultimateone 10-15-2001, 09:38 PM I am an extreme Bmw fan, been looking around for an 850 but cant seem to find one yet. Ive seen the Skylines, Integras and a few Rally's but unsure what would you all recommend? p.s. No Honda Civic,Accord type stuff Jay! 10-15-2001, 09:49 PM I could only find one: http://www.phoenix-model.com/images/Revell_Germany/RGH7183.jpg It's made by Revell-Germany (sister company to Revell-Monogram in the U.S.), and I found it here (http://www.phoenix-model.com/rg_cars.htm). I've never seen the kit, so I don't know how good it is. But, if it's a car you like, you may be willing to go through the trouble of trying anyway. It looks good in the pic. :D If you're new to modeling altogether, read this thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t8468.html) to get an idea of what you're getting into. JE123 10-15-2001, 09:58 PM Do you know if that was the type of BMW used in that old Chevy Chase movie? Demi Moore starred in the movie, but I can't remember the name of it. It is about that junkyard that blows up at the end of the movie. Dan Akroyd also stars in it. The BMW in the movie was really cool. I think it would be cool to make a model of it. Jay! 10-15-2001, 10:01 PM I lied: I found two 850i on ebay. Too bad they're in Germany: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1650633309 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1650881571 Ultimateone 10-15-2001, 10:07 PM Woah you were fast, I've spent like 4 months looking and you 10 minutes!!! Ultimateone 10-15-2001, 10:11 PM Originally posted by jay@af The first one? Already? Wow. Have you ever built model kits before? Well Im 25 now, so I havent in 10 or 12 years. I used to be in Rc cars like incredibly after the models, than that stopped. After I got my beamer Ive wanted to start again as a little weekend hobby so here I am. You guys are really good on here, so your making me want to do well on my first kits. Jay! 10-15-2001, 10:15 PM Originally posted by Ultimateone Well Im 25 now, so I havent in 10 or 12 years. Then I would advise doing a few practice kits before trying your special model. ;) Go to WalMart and pick up a kit or two at $8 a pop and try out the tricks we talk about here. :D And feel free to ask questions. :D :D :D And check out the "Starting out" thread I linked to above for a list of stuff you'll need. ;) Ultimateone 10-15-2001, 10:35 PM Yah thats probably a good idea, theres a Plymouth Prowler at my Walmart, I guess that should be my guinea pig eh? Read the post its very informative.! Jay! 10-15-2001, 10:36 PM :D Cool. Tear that Prowler up! ;) Guiddy 10-16-2001, 02:55 AM I built the super detailed Revell 750iL when I was 16, and that was awesome! The boot opened to reveal the tools in a pull down hatch! Great engine too, and wood trim! That one didn't survive though!:( Ultimateone 10-16-2001, 09:58 AM Good to hear about that 7 series but not about what happened..anyways Im sure it will take alt least a week or so to arrive, will keep you guys updated. Guiddy 10-20-2001, 05:28 PM Here you go, pics of the Revell kit...... http://www.kunta-ripley.com/m_cars/euro/E_BMW850_1.jpg http://www.kunta-ripley.com/m_cars/euro/E_BMW850_2.jpg JE123 10-20-2001, 05:47 PM Originally posted by Ultimateone No that was an old 7 series lowered and with nice old school rims. JE123 10-20-2001, 05:49 PM Originally posted by Guiddy How old? Give me a year! I don't really know for sure but I am guessing early 90s. Guiddy 10-20-2001, 05:53 PM Originally posted by JE123 I don't really know for sure but I am guessing early 90s. The one I had was about 1992! I'll see if I can find a pic! Jay! 10-20-2001, 06:15 PM What model is this? It looks big enough to be a 7-series, maybe... 1/24 BMW Schnitzer http://www.hlj.com/images/fuj/fuj12066.gif (http://www.hlj.com/cgi-local/hljpage.cgi?FUJ12066) JE123 10-20-2001, 10:10 PM That looks like it.
