Pencil roughs for another thinglemorris 03-17-2008, 12:39 AM just a vw http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde1.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde2.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde3.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde4.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde5.jpg I'll mess with it later and try to fix it up. It's ok for now though. -Lemorris bonzelite 03-17-2008, 04:19 AM LOL!!! @ the dime for scale comparision!!! hahahahahahahahaha dunno, man, you simply dominate the funk-a-toon domain. awesome. lemorris 03-19-2008, 12:46 AM ok It's official my daughter is f-bomb'n awesome! It probably won't look like much diffrent in general but it's all about method. I usually do my lineart in Illustrator. My daughter uses Photoshop to do the lineart and rendering. She just showed me how to do the linework her way and it's great! http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde8.jpg once again may not look like much but it is a much more organic method. She has a fancy tablet while I'm still on a mouse but even with the mouse I'm able to get a more natural look and feel to the line. It's computer but it's much closer to the pencil line. here's a close up http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde7.jpg now naturally not to be out done I had to show her how to make it a script and just hit a key to save a ton of time so I guess there was alittle give and take but mostly me taking a step back and marveling at her skill again. I'm so proud of who she is. she just finished a piece and put it on her site http://www.spoonyart.com I know a few other artist that use similar methods...they're gonna dig this one. Shout out to Alix Harris...wow sweetheart....wow oh she's 15 bonzelite 03-19-2008, 01:35 AM So how does she do it exactly to get the smoothness of line in P-shop? lemorris 03-19-2008, 01:02 PM the dreaded pen tool of course :) that's just for the linework. the rendering is done using locked transparency on layers and some fine brush work. I'll explain more as I understand it more. 450HP 03-19-2008, 02:16 PM Incredible... just incredible! Scott Roboduck 03-19-2008, 07:36 PM Dang, Lemorris... Spoony is just awesome! "The off-spring always springs higher than what it sprung off of!" I'm looking forward to how she uses the pen in PS. Robo lemorris 03-19-2008, 11:01 PM yeah I know man. I got no problem with her being "better" than me. That's not something I believe in anyway. I do know that I am very proud of her as an artist but more so as a person. *********************************************** http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde9.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde10.jpg it's goin well I'm still learning as I go though so there's stuff I'll be tweaking but you know...it's a toon so I don't have to get lost in the sub-plot and ultimately I'll have a new method in my arsenal. Music? right now it's that Slim Kid 3 joint that came out this fall I think. He's one of the members of the Pharcyde but this is his solo joint. Looks like some DJ Bitman, old DJ Jazzy Jeff and my mainman Viktor Vaughn aka MF Doom is comin up so....that all makes it a good night. I'll post in a bit. I'd like to finish the lineart no later than tomorrow so I can throw in some color inbetween weekend jobs. :D lemorris 03-20-2008, 12:16 AM http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde11.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde12.jpg goin well learnin lots fun piece Madish 03-20-2008, 06:09 AM Good and creative one, keep it up :D nicecar 03-20-2008, 05:46 PM Thats not normal, i use the pen tool in PS for my lineart, and its nowhere NEAR that good. How much would postage be on your daughter? Great work, keep it up ;) lemorris 03-21-2008, 12:26 AM bonzelite 03-21-2008, 04:53 AM So how is the pen tool tracing achieved in Photoshop to such organic but tightly drawn effect? Nymphantom 03-21-2008, 04:54 AM This beetle looks like my old car :( Mine was 74'... Btw looks really great, cong. lemorris 03-21-2008, 09:57 AM I'll make a tutorial when I get it all down. Right now I'd just bring up more questions as there's still parts I'm figuring out. I'll make one when I'm done with this piece. GirlBear 03-21-2008, 02:57 PM lem i love to watch the progression of ur stuff! lemorris 03-24-2008, 12:12 AM http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde18.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde19.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde20.jpg it's doin somethin...I'm ok with it. lemorris 03-24-2008, 12:54 AM GirlBear 03-24-2008, 11:56 AM lookin awesome! Check it out 1473 and 1437. i thought that was interesting. Now I have 2 wait until you hit 1447 to post again. "OCD" - jk I know ppl say im a little off. lol http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a200/Girlbear/1473.jpg cityofthesouth 03-24-2008, 12:50 PM I dunno if there is some very complicated process involved in these but for a quick run down, just judging by the close ups, and in CS2 - with the pen tool selected choose paths rather than shapes (top left of the screen on the pen tool tool bar), draw your line, on the path palette right click on the path you've just drawn, choose stroke path. When the stroke path window appears choose brush and click "simulate pressure" ... the width of the line depends on the size of brush you have set, as well as the color if you choose "brush" ... you can also use pencil etc. There are many options. The artwork here is amazing. Love the toon distortion. lemorris 03-24-2008, 02:12 PM yeah that's pretty much how it was done it's not complicated at all, just different for me. My daughter does her stuff this way. I normally do all my lineart il Illustrtor then render in ps channels (mostly for screenprint stuff) http://www.lemorris.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/landc_15.jpg It takes me so long to do because I only get a few minutes a night for stuff like this. I'm ok with the overall look so far though, and I'm learning stuff. The line definitely has more character than my other stuff so I'm cool. I remember this 1 man I still love it! ive been oogling it for like a half hour. lol lemorris 03-24-2008, 11:45 PM cityofthesouth 03-25-2008, 09:39 AM Well since you use Illustrator, if you want even more freedom than PS gives you... Have you used "expand" before? It basically turns the stroke into a shape. They might have fixed this in newer versions but 9.0 puts in way too many points sometimes which can be a pain in the ass, but on lines with curves where you'll get many points, you can tweak them and make a custom line with varying weight. PS is limited in that you just kinda get a pen pressure effect at the ends of the line. Anyway, it's a pretty neat trick and I find that doing line art in AI is significantly easier and even faster (at least it's no slower) than PS. cityofthesouth 03-25-2008, 09:41 AM and .. that jeep is the shit btw. GirlBear 03-25-2008, 09:55 AM and .. that jeep is the shit btw. I checked out your DeviantArt Gallery. Loved it! lol I dig ur work. Very cool. cityofthesouth 03-25-2008, 01:59 PM I checked out your DeviantArt Gallery. Loved it! lol I dig ur work. Very cool. Thanks. Sorry, I don't know everyone around here very well so this might be a stupid question - are you the one who did the VW Bug? Or is his daughter someone else? I didn't notice you had a DA gallery. Dunno how I missed you over there. cityofthesouth 03-25-2008, 02:12 PM yeah ignore that question, I was going by the "girl" part in your name but having read your posts again, it's obvious. aaaaaaanyway. Good job to the artist! lemorris 03-25-2008, 07:30 PM lets see if we can get your ship righted here I am Lemorris I have been doing t-shirt designs for nearly 2 decades. I was all by hand till a couple years ago. I am drawing the vws my site is here: http://www.lemorris.com this is a direct link to my gallery http://lemorris.com/lh/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=28 I do shirts and art for lots of folks like you do. I am very old. My daughter is 15. She is an artist too. I have been rendering by doing all my lineart in Illy then rendering in PS channels. I do this because when you render in spot channels it is very much like cutting rubylith which is where I came from. My daughter does mainly anime/manga type art but her technique looked like something I saw someone doing recently. I asked my daughter to show me how she did her stuff. I am doing the drawing of the VW under her direction. I do not do art fulltime. I am a multi-media developer in the medical field. Sounds stupid...pays well. For fun I roll around in my 58 euro ragtop bug and play VW with my friends http://www.dhpvw.com I also do several websites which helps pay for the stuff I have on and in my car. I enjoy making videos for our club too http://www.dhphut.com/movies/movies.html warning on the ghost vid. I do a lot of VW stuff cause I roll in those circles http://www.dhphut.com/images/vintagesm_36.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/jm_bfest_6.jpg This current bug toon is more just to learn from my daughter and see things her way. I'm pretty deep in PS (started in version 2.5) and Illustrator version (4.0), but we can all learn more so I'm enjoying working on this project under my daughter's direction. Oh my wife is an artist too http;//www.caroleaharris.com sorry to be so long winded you should start a new thread as an intro post then folks will come in to meet you and you can get your sea legs so to speak. Your work is good to so welcome to AF. I'll have more on this toon later. Lemorris lemorris 03-25-2008, 07:33 PM on the shirt sep thing if I was going to sep this out for shirt films I'm probably going to have to use the channel mixer so I can go from layered rgb to spot color channels. I really don't like index separations or process seps for that matter so it would largely be a matter of personal preference. I have many screenprint art friends and a few are showing their methods for rgb to spot color shirt seps so that's nother cool part of this little project. GirlBear 03-26-2008, 05:52 PM oh and im not lemorris's daughter. lol lemorris 03-27-2008, 12:28 AM sorry for the side track it confused me too anyway http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde23.jpg I went back to my pencil drawing and redrew the back window section. I coulda just put a reflection over the whole thing and said eff his pop outs but I redrew then rescanned. I moved my new scan of just the window into the right spot then did the line art on a new layer. I then selected everything around it and deleted it from the old lineart. then I selected just the pixel data on my new window and filled it on my old line layer. Then I went in and deleted all color form the old window and re-rendered the new color where I wanted it. After I get the glass in it it'll look pretty cool. lemorris 03-27-2008, 01:54 AM Blip 03-27-2008, 07:35 PM Been gone for a few weeks and get to come back to this one. Very cool toon with great stuff on learning a new technique. lemorris 03-29-2008, 12:35 PM lemorris 03-29-2008, 04:49 PM pretty done it's ok I'll mess with it another time http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde27.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/clyde26.jpg GirlBear 03-29-2008, 07:15 PM Well i gotta say , fantastic! the hotdog is great! the vw badge is cool. dude its just awesome. lemorris 03-29-2008, 11:53 PM Madish 03-30-2008, 07:54 AM Great! Love that cartoony look, you've mastered the PS really well, and these ideas such as hot dog are your signature:grinyes: Blip 03-31-2008, 11:12 AM Big wow on the finished artwork. The "Hot Dog" on the "stick" and the roof rack shadow are some of the great lil touches that make the image just pop. cityofthesouth 03-31-2008, 12:39 PM Yeah somehow I got it that you were posting your daughters work for her or something like that. Nothin like taking the time to read all the posts huh? Anyway, turned out great and I'm gonna bounce over and do the intro thing. I've been posting for some time here off and on but not a lot. lemorris 03-31-2008, 03:53 PM I look forward to seeing more of your work around here. lemorris 03-31-2008, 03:56 PM I took some liberties http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/wienerschnitzel_1968_621809 the owner has it on his car nicecar 04-01-2008, 05:26 AM thats some damn brilliant work there!
