what is the absolute biggest tire i can fit in the rear of my 94 caprice without rubbing. tallest and widest. i know that rim size matters too so lets just say i was going to have a 17 or 18 inch rim. i wanted to go with at least 10.5 inches wide, can i go even wider?

Street or drag??

I wanted to find a taller 17" tire to allow me to comfortably run 4.10s on the street. What I found was mostly sport truck tires with lower speed ratings and would compromise handling compared to the current 255/50zr17 I am running which is the stock size for the Impala SS. Plenty of room for more tire, just limited selection that fit what I wanted.

My drag tires are 27x11.50 Hoosier QTP, that width is section width tread is more like 10.50 these fit fine. I previously tried 28x10.50(tread) Mickey Thompson ET Drags and they were close diameter wise any bigger and I would have feared rubbing on the trim at the front of the wheelwell opening. The axle is forward of center in the rear opening.

if you raise up the rear about half an inch or more, big tires magically start fitting.
if you look at pics, you will see caprices with enormous looking rear tires street driven.

someone on the forum has 18" rear wheels with 275 or 285 rear tires and they look sweet.
the fronts are 15" wheels and like 225, so the difference is pretty stunning.

ya i want street tires. tires and rims are the next step for me but there are so many rims out there. i want to offset it. bigger in the rear obviously. im thinking about 18 inch rims in the rear with the widest tire i can stuff under there and then a 16 inch or 17 in the front with a 255 or so normal width. anyone got any suggestions on rims. my caprice is a 94 and is white. i like the 5 spoke look but really dont know what finish i want (chrome, polished, etc).

i definately remember seeing someone with 29" tall tires on 18" rims that were 275 wide here on the forum.
i cant remember his name tho.
ill keep looking.

the tires must have been something like 275-50-18 or something

if it were me, id do 17 or 18 on the rear and 15 or 16 on the front.
for me, i like the pro-touring look, so i would put wide tires on the front as well.

ya they will be wider than stock but i want the back to be as wide as possible without sticking out.
