O2 Senor and Dual ExhaustPeteA216 03-15-2008, 01:18 AM Alright guys, as some of you already know I'm converting my carbureted '84 Caprice to EFI, specifically TBI. The 1992 OBD1 version. The setup originally came out of a truck and the O2 sensor was on the crossover pipe after both exhausts came together. Now with true dual's, will it be an issue for the O2 sensor because I can only hook up one of the two sides. I'm wondering if getting exhaust from only one side of the engine when originally designed to recieve exhaust from both sides will throw off the computer. I'm just looking for a little guidance here. Thanks a lot in advance! ~Pete silicon212 03-15-2008, 01:56 AM You only need the one sensor. Remember that both planes on the intake feed each cylinder head, you will have results from both barrels on one sensor. PeteA216 03-15-2008, 02:07 AM I realize that all I need is one sensor, thats all I have anyway. But since dual exhaust splits the exhaust down to 4 cylinders per pipe instead of all 8 to one pipe, the one oxygen sensor will only be getting readings from 4 cylinders instead of all 8. I'm just wondering if that will cause any problems. silicon212 03-15-2008, 02:16 AM I realize that all I need is one sensor, thats all I have anyway. PeteA216 03-15-2008, 10:44 AM One the system from the truck that I will be adapting into the car, the O2 sensor was originally on the crossover after both manifolds came together as opposed on one manifold like the Caprice's had. But you're probably still right, wheather you have 2 cylinders or 12 cylinders, it measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust which shouldnt be affected by how many cylinders there are, GreyGoose006 03-15-2008, 12:08 PM the only issue i could imagine would be that the VOLUME of exhaust would be less, but thats not a big deal i think. as you said, its only measuring the amount of oxygen. Gearhead406350 04-11-2008, 12:33 AM I put true duals on my car and the o2 sensor had no problem with being on only one side. You should have absolutely no problems with that setup. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
