Got 1995 olds 88 royale with 3800 series II motor the engine light recently came on. I got a freind of mine to hook a code reader up to it and it said that the engine coolant sensor reading to high. and it said the temp of car was 304degrees hot but it's no way it was i felt hose's and all and it all felt normal. Also the temp gauge on dash was saying about 150 to 160 so I think its still reading correctly. So I went ahead and replaced the sensor it was the one right under the thermostat. Crank it back up and engine light is still on. So i hooked code reader back up and it said the same thing. I let the car run for 45mins and it never ran hot so not sure why code reader is saying 304 degrees and temp guage on dash is correct. Can anyone help???:banghead:

Welcome to AF.

Did you clear the code after you replaced the sensor ?
Did you check the wiring to/from the sensor ?

I did clear the computer once new sensor was installed or I guess i did i unpluged the battery for about 5 min then hooked it back up engine light stayed off untill the cooling fans kicked on then light was back on. I will look for that other sensor behine the throttle body today is there anymore info you can give on it. Does it screw into engine or exchaust or something else, is it clearly visible or do i need to look under something any info is greatly appreciated !!!

if you bend over driver fender towards throttle body where it connects to air intake towards windshield u should see it. it is screwed into the main intake(not the plastic upper one)

I went back out with the flash light and looked did not see it. I see the oxgen sensor that screws into exchaust manifold i see the cruise controll box looked all in there and cant see it, is it anything else you could tell me that might help me. the sensor i replaced is right under the thermostat and it is screw into the main intake. if you lean over driver fender this one is on the left hand side of motor pointing down toward the ground
