I have a 2006 Envoy that the gas gauge is jumping up and down. Sometimes it goes all the way up to full then drops to empty it also floats around.

After scanning computer shows P0463 Fuel Sensor A CKT High Input.

Any ideas where this sensor is located and has anyone had similular issues?

Thanks Ray

Very common problem.
The problem is the fuel level sensor, and it's attached to the fuel pump module, but can be replaced seperately.
If you have less than 36,000 miles, then it's covered by GM. just go to any GMC dealer closest to you.
relpaced hundreds for same concern.

I just experienced the same problem. Fill up makes the guage stop working until some gas is burned. I found on line where 2006 Envoy had a consistant problem with the fuel sensor gage which causes this problem. I called GM - supprisingly they were very helpful an provided good service. After a little bid to hoops to jump through GM PAID TO FIX THE FUEL SENSOR GAGE (REPLACED) AT NO COST TO ME. Estimate for repare was orig $500 because they have to remove the fuel tank to fix the sensor gage. Good news to me and congratulations for GM for a job well done in fixing the problem at no cost! By the way my GMC has 69,950 miles on it at the time of repair!

When you called GM was there a particular number you called? What did you tell them? I have a 06 Envoy that is having a fuel problem as well. Wife called me this morning to tell me that the gas gauge had just said 109 miles remaining and then suddenly dropped to "fuel level low" and the fuel light on. After driving for a bit the fuel light turned off and the fuel level rose. When she stopped to fill up she could only add 16 gallons of fuel. In the past she has run out of fuel when the gauge read well over a 1/4 tank. No good.

I had the problem. The gas gage would go to empty when I filled the tank and after I used some gas it would work again. It was the fuel sensor IN THE GAS TANK cost about 500 to pull the tank at a dealer and fix. I call GM corporate from their web site complained. Found this was a common problem and they had a "silent recall" meaning that they extending the warrenty for this gas sensor problem until 70,000 but didn't tell anyone unless there was a complaint. I had about 69,8700 when I called and complained. GM did a great job with customer relations and ended up fixing the problem for free.

I have a 2006 Envoy that was purchased new and I just started having problems with the fuel gauge dropping to empty and the fuel low indicator coming on as well, even though I just filled my tank. I began doing research as well and have found that this has been a common problem. I contacted GM customer service and a GMC dealer and they claim there is no recall for this problem and GM customer service also said they have never heard the term "silent recall", and have no complaints about this problem on file. I received a service # for my complaint but I am sceptacle about them actually doing something about it. I read the blog from Hrmpro and told customer service about what they said and they were baffled. so, Hrmpro, is there anything else or more specific info you can share so that they can fix my issue as well . thanks.

Well...
I'm new to this Forum, but I see there's many here and on Trailblazer/Envoy Forum that have had a time with this gas gauge problem. I've owned a 2006 since 26K miles and mine started going out in mid-2010 with about 90-100K miles on it. Back than the estimates were WAY to High to afford, plus it seemed to be a 'new' issue, that GM hadn't decided to address... Well... a Long-g-g story short... 15 CSAA Fuel calls for stranded GMC vehicle on the side of the Freeway, wife and children at times ALONE and in the LATE evenings. What a NIGHTMARE and SAFETY Hazard this has been, dodging traffic to get out the Hammer Lane when all of the sudden GMC power drops..and no Fuel because gauge was WRONG...
I FINALLY received my letter several months ago, only to find GM in their Infinite Wisdom, is ONLY viewing this as a Safety Bulletin vs a RECALL... Now with 10 Yrs or 120K Allowance for the 50% Share in Repair Costs, my GMC now has 150K.
So JUST this morning, I call a Local Roseville, CA GMC Dealership and ask what they can do to assist me in MY CHALLENGE.. The Dealership Rep says since my vehicle can NOT be Warrantied as per the Bulletin/Letter, that they could perform a diagnostic for $80-100.00 to tell me what I already know. ALSO, he INformed me to perform the service it would cost me about $1200.00 for a Fuel Level Sensor that costs $162.29. I asked shouldn't the Fuel Pump Module/w Sending Unit and Filter be changed as we've run out of fuel SO MANY TIMES?? He indicates if it's ONLY the Sensor, NO... I say and what if later down the road the Pump goes out?? Guess What GMC Envoy Owners, One gets to Pay another $1200.00...
WHAT A DEAL !!!
I Asked don't they want to Keep Customers as with 150K I will soon be purchasing another vehicle??? NOT.... They DON'T CARE..
I won't be considering another GMC much less a GM Product on my Next Purchase... How would you feel...
So Much For Loyal Customer Care... This is FOUL...
GM/GMC BUYERS BEWARE.

A Dissatisfied GMC Envoy Owner....
