Car Won't Start But Turns Over

If that makes sense. I have a 1995 Crown Vic with the interceptor package, and it's been running fine until last Saturday. The car was idling with the heat and radio on, then I heard a CLUNK noise and the car died ... but the radio and heat were still on. When it started to get cold in the car, then I noticed that the battery light was on. The car acts like it's turning over, it makes the noise like it will start, the radio and everything comes on, I can hear the fuel pump come on ... but it won't start. I had to have it towed back to my house, where it now sits, just waiting on someone to fix it. My only other thought was that it might be the coil packs, or something that's making the ignition not get spark? Any thoughts or suggestions?

sounds like the ignition module quit . if this goes out it will crank over but will not start.

Inspect to see if you are missing spark or fuel. Let us know which one is missing.

I'm having the SAME problem. It worked fine on a thursday night, and that friday morning, nothing. Well, it turns over, but won't start. So everybody started with the "most likely your fuel pump" crap. After testing the fuel pressure and nothing coming out, I discovered earlier it was the relay. Replaced that, and still won't start. My dad claimed the first plug wire wasn't getting any spark, so I swapped the coil pack out with 2 other ones, and same problem (crank, but no go). I had relieved the pressure with the inertia switch a while back while testing the pressure, and the book says if it's "popped". Well, there's nothing "popped" about it, as far as I can tell. The red button on top is about a half inch sunken in, and I hit it to reset it, unhooked the battery for a while for the computer to reboot, and still was same problem. The fuses are all in tact as well. I tried to be as descriptive as possible to use process of elimination, what all have I overlooked and/or neglected to check?

Look up under the front bumper under the battery tray. There is a wiring harness there that wires are bad about breaking. You need to open the harness and look for wires that are broken from corrosion. Possibly a brown wire or a green with a red tracer. Good luck.

I had this same problem with a 96 PI. After troubleshooting all the obvious, turned out the crank sensor plug wasnt "snugged" up all the way. Fired right up once i clicked it into place!

Also have a 89 vic no start after changing the battery, everything checks out fine except the fuel pump doen't come on for the 2 seconds when ignition is turn on can jump relay pump run but engine still won't start, any clues to what may have happen.
Oh engine will start if spray some into the intake.

I've had this trouble befor pull the wiring harenss from you ignition mod. wait a minite and plug it back in see if will start. we had trouble with it on a lincon. Some can be cked at your parts store if they have the equiment.
note if putting fuel into the intake will start the engine it could be your mass air fow (MAF).

I am having the same problem with a 92 Vic. I think my problem is fuel pump related. I noticed that the fuse for the pump was blown and replaced it. The new fuse blew as soon as I turned on the ignition. Any ideas what could cause the fuse to blow so quickly? Could it be a relay problem?

Unplug the fuel pump and check if it blows the fuse you may have a bad fuel pump. If it still still blows look at the wiring harness for a frayed or worn place.
Look under the front bumper. Look closely under the electrical center for corrosion.

Where do you unplug the fuel pump?

On top of the gas tank.

if the fuse is blowing the pump most likely has shorted out.the brushes wear down and no one sells brushes anymore.you will have to drop the tank to get to the pump.

you don't say what year it is but the '80 models had the module on the side of the distributor and when the module went out it would not get fire.you need a special wrench to get the screws out . .also check the wires going from the module to the coil. don't know how the '92 up modules are set up but will be the same principle

Have u tried making sure u have spark using a spark plug tester. Then make sure ur fuel pump is good. Also make sure u make sure the fuel is getting to the front. Then check timing. Rapid quick turning of the engine while trying to start could be timing belt or chain depending on year
