How do you replace heater core on a 2000 F-150?

Hello guys;

I have a 2000 F-150 5.4 2WD. The heater core just went out on it and when I put the defrost on and I smelled burning coolant and I have film on the inside windshield. So, not being a total expert, I'm guessing it's the heater core.

My question is, how hard would this be to replace for an average Joe like me? I just replaced the brakes and rotors last night, so I know how to do basic stuff like that.

What would I be getting myself into trying to replace this core without ever doing one before?

I am fearing the worst with big $$ spent at a dealership. :banghead:

Thanks

Jason

Goto the autoparts store and buy the chilton book for your truck. its shows the proper procedure of removing the dash. My first time took 3 hours just to get the dash out and 2 1/2 getting it back in. the core itself took no time at all. It sux but if you want heat its got to be done. takes normal tools. oh your going to need a buddy to help moving the dash

I would suggest the same, but go look on E-Bay for the Ford Service Manual either in paper or CD. CD's from one vendor are going for $4 each+ $6 S/H (no bidding, just buy). I have seen paper copies for anywhere from $30 to $120 + $30 S/H.

I just ordered a CD for my Windstar. Hopefully I get what I think I paid for and if I did, I will order one for my F150.
