Brake problem? Maybe?

I had to have my 2000 beetle towed because it seemed as if the brakes just locked up! At first it was as if the car was loosing power, so I pulled to the side of the road. The car would start, I would put it in gear (manual), and it would rev, just not go anywhere. You could smell the brakes being rubbed. When it got to the garage they told me I needed new brakes, and they replaced the rotors too. I picked the car up, ran an erand, and guess what? Same problem! They don't seem to know what's going on, and the nearest Volkswagen dealership is 85 miles away! Does anyone know what is going on, so I can atleast give them an inkling as to what to look for? Thanks

If you've had the brake stop switch replaced recently it is possible that the switch has been installed incorrectly which causes the brakes to stay on and not be released when you operate the pedal. Apparently the switch can be misaligned and somehow jams the rod that connects to the brake booster.
