shock absorbers (again)

I would like to use a thicker fluid in my shocks. I heard that motorcycle fork oil (20W) would do the trick, but I tried that and I didn't notice any difference. Any ideas?

The original fluid was probably about equal to a 20w fork oil. Are you wanting the shocks stiffer? If that is what you want it's best to change the valving. Although this is a Triumph article the valving is very similar.

You could also go to a 30w oil in the shocks but any higher may damage the shocks.

Thanks Flash! I laughed when I read your suggestion, as I had just finished doing exactly that. The shocks did seem a little stiffer (by hand). I haven't tried 30w yet.

Go to Moss or Vic. Brit. They both sell stiffer valves for your shocks. Be careful about adding heavier oils than recommended. In cold weather you can damage the shock!
