Not really sure where its leaking from. Somewhere on the upper side of the tranny. the van wouldn't drive before i put 2 qts of ATF into it. is there anywhere that is common to leak? i'll try to get more information tommorrow when its light out and i'm not laying on my back in the snow/ice with a flashlight in my teeth

If fluid is collecting on top of the transfer case towards the back side of the tranny it could be a leaking forward pump seal. You have to remove the tranny and disasseble to replace the seal. Cost me $700 to have it done. If you see fluid on the front of the tranny, make sure the lines to the cooler (from tranny to radiator) are secure.

This may sound dumb but i'm new to working on FWD vehicles. Which way is the front of the tranny? Is it the front of the car? just wondering. i'm going out now to crawl under and try to see where its comming from. figure i'll jack the car up pull the passenger wheel off and see what i can see.

OK i can't be 100% sure. but its leaking(badly) out the top back side of the tranny. Its running down the back side near the drivers side 1/2 shaft. I can't see exactly where its comming from but its up there somwhere between the engine/tranny and the firewall. anyone have any ideas what might be up there and what it could be.

If you have car ramps use them rather than jacking up vehicle, if not make sure to use jack stands for safety.

The transmission is on the driver side of vehicle, front of transmission will be bolted to the engine facing towards the passenger side. You can also look down at the transmission by looking between firewall and the radiator on the driver side.

Here is a link with a picture of the transmission which may help you with compotent locations:

Hope this helps

there is fluid pooling up on top of the Diff. talked to a tranny shop and he said that my trans axle is junk because the shaft probably popped out and hit the diff cover or something like that. i'm quite mechanically inclined. is this something i can fix myself or should i take this in to be fixed. again i'm not 100% sure what exactly is wrong.
