Buick Fuel and temp gauge fix

I am a mechanic at a small dealer and recently we got a 99 Park Ave in. The temp and fuel gauges were flipped around, so I fixed them. the next day when the car was started it flipped them around again. Not wanting to fix this problem a 3rd time I made my own fix, that I have done to other cars with similar problems.

I took the cluster out and the clear cover off. as you can see there is a stop pin on the left side of each of the gauges for them to rest on when the car is not running. Well why not have them on the right side too? So I took apart another cluster, this one from a 97 century and pulled 2 of the pins out and drilled a hole to the right of both the gas and temp gauge. I used a 2 part 5 min epoxy and glued the pins in the holes I drilled. If you have a good eye, you can get the stop pin installed to the right as it is on the left side. After its all back together you would never know its been messed with, and looks factory.

This will work on any other car that the guages like to flip on, and you can use the pins from any make of gauge cluster. I prefer the GM and honda ones as the pins are easy to remove from the clusters.

I also took pictures if you would liek to see what I did.

Why would the gauge flip like this anyway? I just noticed my Temp Gauge is on the wrong side of the stop pin, cold side. What the heck?! It was just fine the day before. BTW the DIC gauge information says the temp is normal.
I don't want to have to take off the cluster panel, if I don't have to.
Thanks for any help,
Wendy
