gmc sierra z71 1999 gas gauge

hello ladys and gent s i own a GMC sierra z71 1999 and my gas gauge wont stop going up and down while im driving, any way is there a way i could fix the problem ,i called gm and they told me it's normal ? thank for ur help.....:smokin:
