'96 Sedan Deville New Serpentine Belt!!!obryan 03-03-2008, 07:44 PM Hi guys! I have friend who needs help installing new serpentine. I dont know much about caddies, I have read all related threads on this subject but am not quite sure where tension pully is at? Can anyone guide me on installing new serpentine belt??? I really appreciate anyones help or advice!! thanks! caddydaddy 03-03-2008, 08:49 PM Follow the diagram under the hood for routing. The tensioner should have a 1/2 inch square cut into it. Use a 1/2 inch breaker bar or socket wrench to turn the tensioner enough to get the belt on. obryan 03-03-2008, 09:06 PM ok. awesome, thats what ive just read. so i need to look for a 1/2" square socket and use leverage to loosen it and then put new belt on according to diagram and then tightn 1/2"?? thanks man caddydaddy 03-03-2008, 10:05 PM The tensioner automatically tightens the belt. The socket wrench is to move the tensioner to get the belt on. You don't tighten anything! obryan 03-03-2008, 11:01 PM ok, so all im doin is adjusting tensioner to be able to slip a belt on, and then move tensioner to tighten belt and then tighten bolt, right?? I appreciate ur answer. 83cutlass 03-04-2008, 07:09 AM The Tensioner is spring loaded. So you stick the 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar into the 1/2" square hole on the side of the tensioner, then pull it, hold it there while you release the belt from 1 or 2 pulleys. Then you can release the tensioner (it will spring back into position). Reverse the process for the install. Good luck, its kinda tight in there and a little tough to route it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
