This will be another magnificient paint job. I do love these ambitious projects. Good luck and it reminds me of another Nascar in this forum. Was it a Kasey Kane one? Dontīt quite remember! Good luck with the paint and I wish for pictures, pictures, pictures....

Great start. Cool livery. Dash looks great.

Is this box stock so far? I've always wanted to try a NASCAR but wasn't sure about the OOB details.

That is certainly disappointing to hear. :shakehead Regardless of who's ideas they were, I enjoyed watching your builds, as I'm sure many others. I don't understand why tensions are so high? We're building models, not curing cancer or solving the world's energy crisis. I wasn't aware open source ideas were proprietary.

I see James is making me out to be the bad guy here by pulling the "fine I wont post here anymore" Trump card. Whatever...:shakehead
I never said open sources were proprietarty, Mr Tremblett likes everyone to think he makes all of his detail up. Like all the ideas are his own... NEVER once mentions who shared it and helped him get to the level he is at. Many of you think I am being Anal thats fine, but you all dont know the history... With that being siad I am going to clam up, be quiet, and not voice anymore opinions on this subject. I apologize in advance to all who think this infiltration of off topic bickering is ridiculous. It just finally hit a nerve with me.
I hope this does not change any of your opinions of me. I guess I gotta let it go now.

James,
Your a talented builder there is no denying that. Keep up the good work but give kudos to the ones you learn from. I dont think there is any harm in that....

Not wishing to be dragged into something that seems to be maybe a bit underlying and personal, I think everyone is influenced in their builds at some point by other peoples work they have seen. Whether it be the minutest detail or whatever, everydays a school day as far as I'm concerned!
Anyone who has seen the only build that I have posted here will see that I work in the hobby industry, for one of the magazines to be specific, and I garner ideas from all fields, including military modelling so to list anyone who has ever been an influence through their work on yours through any part would be extensive...not to say that this is the case this time round...

I don't feel that here is really the place to air a grievance of this kind of regard. James is just trying to post his work, which to my mind is mighty fine. Keep it going fella, I'm greatly appreciating seeing this fine model form. And to say that I am keen on SkylineFan's work too, all awesome, I don't want to offend or rile anyone, I just want to see you all continue to post your fine work here.

By the way, may use some of you guys ideas on my builds if thats ok....!!

I couldn't agree more. I'm sure we're all influenced by 100's of different sources in everyday life (I know I am). Probably 90% of what inspires and educates me in car modelling comes from military and aircraft modelling and other arts and crafts not even modeling based. I'd be darned if I'm going to specifically list people that influence my builds unless they've supplied me with specific advice, parts or materials.

Keep up the good work James and please keep us informed. Frankly, I find Nascar deadly dull but love seeing these model builds. At the end of the day Nascar engineering is pretty formulaic so how someone can acuse another of plagerism is beyond me.

Before I joined AF I was basically one step up from brush painting a car body. I've picked up tips and information from countless members and their threads to improve my skills and I couldn't agree more.

The kits are generally very basic, lack a lot of detail and are inaccurate. Techniques for accurizing and detailing the kits to a very high level have been around for years (Tom Anderson), but more recently Clay and Dave (and a few others) have raised the bar. These techniques were born about the time the the BAD forum was at it's best. Some of the stuff was ground breaking and in many ways inspired others back into building Nascar. I think what Dave's simply saying is that James is using those techniques and ideas and not offering credit to those whom discovered them. I visit a number of forums and Dave and Clay's techniques are being used by many Nascar builders. What we don't want is for those biulders to stop. The models are great to look at. :smokin: .Everything I build has someones influence somewhere on them, but particularly Dave's stuff. :smokin:

great work, JT!!!

To be honest I thought quite some time if I should answer here but I couldn't help myself... guys what are you doing? It's ridiculous to compare pics and say "hey you copied his work", besides what is the big similarity? The steering wheel on the dashboard, come on? I am sure there is something else between you guys which we proably don't know about but that's something that shouldn't be discussed here because this is a great forum and not a place to start little fights with members... especially not over modeling because that should be fun and nothing else. If someone "copies" my work, well your welcome because that is one reason I post here and I'm glad there are many more who do this!
Sure it's no problem to thank somebody but what should he do? I connected this wire there, thanks Clay? I sprayed tamiya grey here, thanks clay? Maybe I don't get the point but I can't see a special technique that he has used which requires a special mention of anybody..

So JT please continue to post your work because there are much more people who enjoy your threads then people who don't...

That's my opinion and I won't say anything more to it promise, so I'm sorry if I offended someone!

I totally agree with exit13 and Thesaint111.
Nothing more to add to that IMO.

Oh yes, I would like to add that I think it is very sad and also very damaging to this forum that this kind of (apparantly) personal fights is fought out in the open.
Bad publicity in my eyes. And yes SkylineFan, in my eyes this situation makes you look like "the bad guy" (even if I might be wrong).

I'm missing you already JT. Always love following your builds.

to give credit? for what?
who build it? clay for JT? NO!!! jt built it. at least what we know.
does it look similar? level of detail goes to reality so no surprise models are similar.
did he steal some good ideas? what is this hobby about? about industrial patents? i think clay could be happy if his work inspires someone (i would be). and it does.
for what purpose are forums like this? for sharing ideas, showing good job etc...? i think so
if i build 10000000000`th earnhardt monte carlo - does it mean i copied other monte carlos built aerlier by other modelers?
maybe some fear that you - top 2-3-4 guys are not the world best?
dave, you dont want others to change opinion on you, but i am not sure if apologizing (maybe under pressure from others?) is enough.
i am sad seeing such things in automotive modeling society!

AND if we dont know history and all around - tell it! maybe i (and others) am wrong and dont know it.
we are all inside it now reading it on public forum so show up cards or dont be surprised other not are on your side dave.

I don't know you, you don't know me... not too bad.

And I also don't know Skylinefan much either...

let's get to the fucking point here.

Who cares you stole techniques... We (I) do it all the time. That's what the internets are for. Well, considering a good prep-job, special painting and modifying techniques are considered Property...

I don't know, this seems like such a ridiculous discussion, we all like and love your thread and builds JTR, as we do those of Skylinefan.

Please, please, please just build shit and be nice...

Not that there's anything wrong with SF's comments, but okay, so he might have been inspired by other builds, but who hasn't. Do we really have to say that shit, it's a freaking post on the freaking internet for model-lovers (no pun intended) all over.

Just shake hands, apologise and have great make-up sex.

Guys, I think Clay's work is incredible, and I admire his work, but I think it's WRONG to make it the absolute reference to define if anyone's work is good or bad.

This is a hobby, and we should support the personal reward it gives us, not the level of accuracy it shows.

Dude, don't let someone with a personal vendetta keep you from posting your builds... just ignore his posts and do your thing.

Everyones "techniques" came from somewhere else... which is to say that the original idea was taken from somewhere, someone or something else and refined to where it's at today. Your work is awesome. If you got the ideas to do things a certain way from somewhere else... that's how it's done in this hobby! I don't mean just from other scale models, but also from the actual 1:1 cars. Someone came up with that first. Maybe we should all thank the auto manufacturers, fabricators and the artists who came up with the original paint schemes...

Anyhoo, this isn't my fight, but I think that I'm with the majority when I say that it's not good for this forum or the hobby for someone as talented as yourself to stop sharing your work. We need you here to inspire us to do better.

Well... I did not look in the completed section - and a lot of people wanted to see the finished car, hence a link to where I knew it was posted.

Hahaha, you said it, not me, hahahaha. No, I was told that the reason why links on this site arent allowed, is b/c the advertisers wont allow them, which just seems incredibly asinine & anal to me. Apparently they dont realize that links work both ways.

As far as being an administrator, Im and admin on a ford ranger enthusiast's website (site's not nearly as large as this one, but we have over 50k members), so Im well versed in how admin's get treated.

I think you mean the administrators. :) and they're not nearly as anal as some would believe; if that were so, I wouldn't be allowed to be a moderator here! :p :uhoh: :disappoin :( Just trying to add a (pathetic) bit of humor. :icon16:
