2 Issues: 96' GCL 5.2L Any Ideas?LeeRod617 03-02-2008, 01:56 AM Hi, I just bought my 96' Jeep GCL. I have two issues, one smaller than the other. Issue #1: Big I've noticed while completely stopped or under 5 mph, the Jeep takes off sluggish in 1st gear. Drives fine after 5 mph when gears change, but when I shift it to 1st or 2nd gear to start out. It takes off strong, I then switch to Drive. I did some reading and thought it might be the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) Solenoid. Any ideas why it's doing this? Hopefully it isn't anyhting major and/or Transmission. :2cents: :shakehead ! Issue # 2 Small My Rear window wiper is not working  . Can anyone tell me where the fuse and Relay is located (my first Jeep, don't know where to look). I would like to check that before I invest :2cents: in a new wiper motor. Any idea how I can get a diagram of all the fuses and relays on this vehicle? Also, I just replaced the starter myself, it now turns over beautifully. I bought a new Starter Relay in case I needed it, but um, don't know where it goes :grinno: . Any advice? Sorry for asking so many questions, I just love this Jeep and want it running strong as it should. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. - Lee :sunglasse 83cutlass 03-02-2008, 10:08 PM Count your shifts. Maybe you are actually starting out in 2nd from a stop. That'll make it feel sluggish. I hope it's nothing serious. Thank you. Any idea where I can find a Fuse box diagram? Or at least tell me where to find the rear wiper fuse/relay? :frown: Thanks again! - Lee 83cutlass 03-03-2008, 09:25 PM Its fuse #3 on the fuse block located on the right side of the dash panel. It runs the rear wiper motor and rear washer pump. So if the rear washer pump runs then the fuse is good. Most likely its time for a new wiper motor. Its a somewhat common failure. Brand new they're over $100. grrr! I'll see if I find one in a junk yard. Or is that a bad idea? Thanks again for your help Cutlass. 83cutlass 03-03-2008, 09:50 PM Junkyard is always a good option. How long it'll last is up in the air though. LeeRod617 03-03-2008, 10:00 PM Junkyard is always a good option. How long it'll last is up in the air though. I hear ya.. Thanks for your help. I'll update with my luck.. reekor 03-04-2008, 08:15 PM At a junk yard you will most likely find junk, the reason I'm saying this is that last summer when I was shopping for a jeep and looked at 20 or so of them, the rear wipers were all dead. The reason is because the wiper transmission is in an alloy case with a very tight bushing around the wiper arm shaft and it corrodes and seizes. What you can do, is take the wiper transmission apart, you'll need to unsolder the motor terminals to get the main board out and in order to get at the main gear and shaft. Once you get the shaft out file it out a little and grease everything and it will be as good as new. 20-30 minute job and if you need to hammer the shaft out make sure the you have a nut on the end so that you do not damage the threads. Thank you.. i'm going to try this later today before it rains, should I leave the bushing out, read somewhere that it worked fine without it.. Hope it works, cross your fingers...:uhoh: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
