squeaking pulley?h2oman 02-24-2008, 06:22 PM checked out my serpentine belt, and it looks fine (no fraying or cracks) yet I have a definite squeak coming from the front of the truck, and it's pretty loud. How can I pinpoint which pulley is causing the noise? Or is it even a pulley? Squeak gets faster as RPM's increase, and does not go away. Any help is appreciated! Truck has 71,000 miles and a 4.8L engine. knogoodidleft 02-24-2008, 06:41 PM Take off the belt, and turn the pulleys and listen for a squeak, But this is not 100%, might need a few more rpms to make the squeak. anything oily will cause a squeak, To remove the oil get some soap, I used some liquid dish soap and while my engine idled i dripped some on the belt, would stop the squeak for a few days, Later I found out it was my belt tensioner bearing that was squeaking, found it odd that soap on the belt would make it stop. Good luck, nothing worse than driving a squeaking truck:frown: h2oman 02-24-2008, 06:44 PM Thanks....If I do find the squeaky pulley, do I put something on it, or replace it? Is that easy to do? knogoodidleft 02-24-2008, 07:20 PM If you do find that its a pulley, and not the part behind the pulley thats squeaking:banghead:, yeah there pretty easy to replace. If you cant get a pulley to squeak, take off the belt tensioner and turn the bearing, even if it looks good, it still might need replacing. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
