On my way back from Wal Mart earlier this evening had a little fun on the highway!! My lady friend Sarah(yes the same one Matt:D) was riding shotgun. As we get on 460 West it's one of those situations where the onramp merges from two to one lane before getting on the freeway. I'm in the left lane, the one that continues. I notice a black WRX pull up beside me in the right lane, the one that has to merge. I see him kinda gun it and then slow back down again, like he's waiting for me to make a move. I'm usually the one giving the other person the head start but I figured sure, why not.
I downshift into second(going about 40) and put it to the floor. Wheelspin wasn't TOO bad, and I pull about 2 cars in second. Chirp into third and pull another 3 cars or so on him through third. He then just merges behind me and we both get onto the freeway. A few minutes later he passes by me and shifts into my lane while I"m cruising at about 60 or so. I got kinda scared, and thought he was going to be ghey and try and give my shit on the road like slamming on his breaks or something. I understand what's going on when a black SI zooms past me and I hear a LOUD blow off valve(Sounded AMAZING!!!:D :D). He pulls up next to the WRX and I tell Sarah to hold tight, heheh. They slow down to ~35 or so, and then go for broke. I kinda lay off to stay behind them, and when they end it, I'm going about 100 so I figured they were at around 120. The SI DESTROYED the WRX by like 8 lengths!!! They slow and go again, same thing.
The guy in the SI sticks his hand out the window and waves for me to come on. I switch behind him and the WRX falls back behind me. I switch back over and move next to the SI. We slow to about 30 and I let him go for it first. He takes off and through second and third he pulls to about a car length ahead of me and holds that through fourth until about 115 - 120. I LOST!! We roll down the windows and I yell to him "Let me set the pace this time, but you still go first" and he yells back, "Whatever floats your boat" with a smile. I smile back and roll the window back up. I decide to go from 60 this time, see if things are any better for me. We go to 60 and he takes off again, this time pulling a bit further ahead, maybe 1 and a half cars or so, once again up to 115 - 120. I roll the window back down and say good run and he returns it. The freeway is coming to an end so when we pull up to the light I ask him if he'd give me another chance, only this time with spray. He agrees..."SUCKER" I think:D I open the bottle, purge, and arm the system at the light. We take off slow as he wanted to go from a roll again. We go up to about 30 again and he guns it. I do likewise and the nitrous kicks in at 3300 and full throttle. Major wheelspin as expected, but I still manage to stay just a half car back through second. During third, more spinning, but I pull about 2 lengths easy, and through 4th another length. End up winning by about 3 in the same area, 115 - 120. We pull together and say good one again and then pretty much go seperate ways. First street loss in a while...Kind of scary, lol. But I redeemed myself. Can't wait to get to a track now, felt SO STRONG! And it's only jetted on a 150hp shot! 100 more hp for the track!!!:D

Turbos can tear it up at higher speeds like that. Good try though, at least you got one win.

Surprised is an understatement. I was mentally blown away. Definitely wasn't expecting the car to be that fast. Easily a mid 11 second civic to stay ahead of me like that. I would like to know how much boost he was pushing, probably in the 18 - 20 lb range. Maybe I'll see him around. I'm positive he goes to school here, as EVERYONE in this area does. It's the only thing here:D

Ha! I wish. Some of the old timers might remember I started down that path the summer before last. Bought an intercooler, made sure my engine was in good condition and ready to handle the power, and reworked my fuel system so it would be up to par for boost. And then I realized I was about to drop $5k mininum into this estranged TT project. Had to end that quickly:D It got VERY expensive VERY fast. I wish though, I really do wish. Maybe some day further down the road.

i would suggest a blower, but since you already started on your turbo project last year, i guess you gotta scratch out the idea of a blower now.

Old timers, you registered a month before I did :p

Well, if you already have a strong engine, and intercooler, and have made the necessary fuel modifications, then all you need is an ignition controller, headers and a couple of junkyard T3s from a Thunderbird. They've got great trim for TT V8 setups.

Indeed I did...But I was an original purehonda.com member for 2 years prior:) But yea, I dropped nearly a grand on the IC(got a deal or it would have been more), spent almost 2 grand on getting everything fuel related set to go. I would have been looking at another 2 - 3 thousand at least on manifolds, body mods, turbos, oiling mods, and custom piping to have what would have been a "shaky" motor at best. Thought it best to pull out before I got too deep into it. Sold the IC off for nearly as much as I payed for it and put that towards the nitrous setup I currently run:) Much better decision I think in the long run.

Newer SI, like a 99 or somethin.
And yes CJ, he probably was a bit surprised. Probably not as much so as me though. Afterall, he probably knew he was going to lose. He didn't beat me by much to begin with and then I did tell him I was going to run nitrous the next go, so I figure he probably expected a loss. I however had no clue he was boosting like that:eek: I heard the BOV when he drove by and raced the WRX, but that doesn't usually mean too much ya know. But anywho, yea good fun.:)

1: ok,,,, I had to say this, people who drives WRX with BOV are slow. I still have the stock one because it is the best. BOV for WRX is just a apprearance,,,, almost a rice mod for me. the stock one redirect the air back to the airbox, aftermarket release the air into engine bay which cause rich condition in between shift.
2: come on people, WRX is slow man, I am sick of all the hype about WRX. I spent about 10g on my WRX and it only reaches mid 11's......
3: good kill, I am so sick of cocky WRX drivers out there, they think WRX is god or something. if I wasn't living in a snow climate, I will for sure get a muscle car......

what WRX drivers fail to remember is that its not a 280hp STI its a 240hp WRX and its a 4 door

still the WRX i drove felt quicker than the Mustang GT that i drove it also felt like it wanted to rip up the tarmac it had so much grip.

what have you bought with 10g's to put on your WRX

But yea, it's only jetted for a 150hp shot at the moment, but ready to swap out the jets for a 250hp shot next week for the track!

True, but the Vette would still look better, and be lighter.

To be honest, I think you should get a used Mazda RX7 FD, and put an LS1 in that. I've seen a few of those, and they are downright wicked :D

Since the RX7 only weighs around 2800lbs, it's got a huge power to weight advantage. The LS1 is actually a little lighter than a TT 13B as well I believe, and the cars have incredible handling even stock.

Cost is pretty low for an FD as well, easily comparable with that of a late model TransAm.

Not too worried about weight...Nothing a gross excess of horsepower can't fix:D But once again, not really looking to get anything old. And I'm not really looking to swap. Especially not an LS1, too damn expensive. And I agree the Vette does look better than the Ws6...Not by much;)

Ah, I gotcha, the buy and drive it approach... I prefer my "endless money pit project" approach ;)

I've heard the LS1 has issues with the block above 500hp, and needs to be strengthened. I'm sure it'll be a badass Transam though, are you going to keep your nitrous setup from the Z28? I bet it would work on the LS1 as well.

Yea, I'm definitely into buying it and driving it, heheh. Originally I was planning to keep the nitrous but now I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell it along with the car, or seperate it and sell it alone. Either way, I won't be using it on the new ride. No clue which direction I want to take with the new car, but I'm pretty sure I DON'T want to go the nitrous route. I'm probably the number one proponent of nitrous systems on the board, but I just want to do something different from a change. Maybe a supercharger, maybe stay NA. A bunch of guys and a dealer over on camaroz28.com are working almost 'round the clock to get a reasonably priced and reliable twin turbo kit together for the modern Chevy muscles, so if that pans out, that may be a viable option. So yea, the n20 system will be for sale in all of its 250 shot glory...Interested??:D

Self,

If you wanna go the turbo route, here's what I am saving up for. Yeah it's pricey but 600RWHP sounds insane

LS1 Twin Turbo System - Stryker 500 #31
Stryker 500 450-650 Rear wheel horsepower package

After 1-1/2 years of R&D and working out the bugs, the LS1 Stryker 500 twin turbo system is now available to the general public to order.

- Twin custom Garret T34 hybrid turbochargers
- Twin 321 stainless steel turbular headers
- Twin CAS 42mm internally seated wastegates
- Single front mounted high efficiency intercooler
- Aluminum intercooler plumbing
- Nomex intercooler hoses
- Stainless high torque hose clamps
- PCM programming
- Upgraded fuel injectors (42lb/hr)
- Boost gauge and mounting plate
- Boost controller

$6499

On a 100% stock vehicle, expect 460 RWHP on a 6 speed car and 430 RWHP with a 4L60e. With a cylinder head and camshaft upgrade, this package can produce up to 650 RWHP with proper fuel system and tuning. A Racetronix twin fuel pump upgrade required or external fuel system is require for applications making more than 600 RWHP applications

Wow, I've heard of the kit, but didn't know the URL, so thanks for that. Yeap, that's the road I started down...And after I had dropped around $2k into the project, I realized I was looking at another $5k to finish it up, I had to pull out. A TT would be magnificent, but until something more affordable comes along, I'm not looking to pursue it. That's why I'm working hard with a bunch of the guys over on cz28.com to get a new dealer to work up a new kit, with the parts WE want at the price WE want(well....close to it at least:D ). But still, good luck with getting that done. Love to see it when it's all completed.:)
