I am going to need to change the coolant in my truck soon and i noticed that the radiator has no cap. The recovery tank is pressurized and the radiator has a drain plug on it but how would i refill my radiator after draining it? are there any coolant drain plugs on the engine block? If so where are they? and is the coolant refill procedure any diffirent if i drian coolant from the engine block using the drain plugs?

Any help would be appreciated, and please include all the details with your answers

There is a big hose that comes out of the bottom of the reservoir and either "T"s into the lower radiator hose or goes into the water pump in the same passage as the lower hose. When you fill the reservoir, it fills the system the same as if there is a cap on the radiator. I don't believe there are any drains on the block, just frost plugs. If you want to get every last bit of old coolant out, just drain as much as you can out of the radiator and remove the lower radiator hose and stick a running garden hose in the engine side. Start the engine up and wait for clear water to run out of the radiator. Once it runs clear, turn off the engine, turn off the hose, and reconnect the lower radiator hose. Add 1/2 the system capacity of straight antifreeze, and top off with water. If you've got the dex-cool sludge in it, I'd have it flushed with a chemical and replaced with universal green antifreeze.

How much of the total coolant capacity does the radiator account for?

an 'o2 has a drain hose that is on the drivers side of the radiator it runs up into a ring on the side of the radiator pull the drain hose out of the ring and turn it down open the drain the hose is long enough to put in a jug . i put a side tank on an '02 2500 hd with a 8.1 and i put two gallons of antifreze in and 1 gal and 1/2 of water in the resavior and filled it up.as the radiator was three feet wide and three inches thick.and your radiator can't be any bigger.when you get her drained close the drain and turn the hose back up and put it back in the ring.the resavoir has a full mark on it and you'll have to crank it up and let the t-stat open to get her all the way full.
