99 Grand Am wont start after head gasket change!wopsmickey 02-21-2008, 10:49 PM I replaced my head gaskets and all other gaskets that were pulled out. I put new plugs and wires in. Turned the key and all I got was a whirring sound. It didn't try to kick over or anything. I was wondering if it could be fuel not getting to the engine. Someone please help! doctorhrdware 02-22-2008, 12:28 AM Is the engine turning over or is the starter just spinning and not engaging the fly wheel. wopsmickey 02-22-2008, 01:24 PM After several tries it started working, but smoke is now coming out from around the engine. I'm not sure if its just burning stuff off or its not properly sealed. J-Ri 02-22-2008, 05:34 PM I'm assuming you shut it off then? If it kept smoking after you shut it off, it's probably just burning off the outside. That almost always happens after head/intake gaskets because there's no way around spilling some oil/antifreeze. I usually hose the engine off before starting it. It's pretty easy to tell if it's just steam. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
