Hello everyone!
I am having trouble with my gas cap on my 05 chevy malibu. It doesnt seem to want to tighten when replacing it after fueling up. I went to Autozone for a replacement cap and im having the same issue with the new cap. I also think this is the reason im getting a check engine light. Any and all suggestions or answers to my issue would be great before I use my last resort....
(:banghead: the dreaded dealer:banghead: ). Thanks in advance!

Daniel

Go to the delaer, if you haven't already. There a few Technical Service Bulletins on this issue, that the dealer can check out.

My '04 Maxx had that when it was brand new. I'd been getting a warning in the Driver Info Center about checking the gas cap. Turns out I had a warped fuel tank, that had to be replaced. I forget if any '05s were affected....mine's a late build '04, and if yours is an early build '05....could be that issue.

DanielI replaced mine with an OEM cap and the problem did not go away. The service adviser quoted to keep driving it for 3 to 4 days until the computer diagnose the correction. I drove it for 6 days and the problem did not resolved itself. It corrected itself after I disconnect the battery cable for ~5 minutes.

I encountered the same problem even with a new OEM cap. Disconnecting the battery cable for ~5 minutes corrected the fault light. Hope it helps.
