What engines will fit 98?

Well, I think i've wrecked my 3.1.

Theres this unholy metal on metal banging sond coming from my engine, I think I snapped a pushrod but I haven't been able to get it to a garage (the car is sitting 250k+ from home) for a professional opinion but most people say its probably better to just replace the motor cause of all the debris if thats the case.

So if anyone knows a bigger or more reliable engine(I've replaced 2 headgaskets in 2 years) that'll fit this car lemme know.

Also, would a newer (99-02) 3.1 be a direct swap? Theres a 15 hp difference.

If you remove the air intake, rocker arm covers, fuel rail etc, you can see if the push rods are broken. Rather than swapping engines, open yours and take a look, thats easier than changing engines. I just got used push rods off ebay for 3 bucks each and they are simple to install, just time and gaskets. If you can have an expert listen to your motor before you work on, that will help. I had knocking in a motor once and it was the lower end bearings. Repair was out of the question, swapping motors made sense. You should have someone with know how listen to your motor before deciding.
