A guy at work has a 2004 Ford F350 Super Duty 4X4 6 speed. He wants to change the headlight bulbs to the blue ones. He was going to take it to the shop since he can't find where to get to the bulbs with so much stuff in the way behind the headlights. I told him I would check here first for him. Anyone know how to "get to them" to change them without removing the batteries and alot of other stuff ???

First let me semi-quote from a 80's era Chilton on how to ease removal/installation of sparkplug fro Vega V-8. 'Remove RH motor mount and trnsmission mount. Jack up transmission."

My point is, sometimes there is no easy way.

I would have thought removing batteries should do it, but don't know for sure, that's for sure.

I guess he better just take it to the shop and watch how they do it, so he can do it next time

"I guess he better just take it to the shop and watch how they do it, so he can do it next time"

I guess. A couple of things:

Many shops will not allow a customer to watch them work due to insurance and other factors.

If it is a complicated job, he will probably have to leave it.

If it is not complicated, why leave it at all?

Since you are signing is as kycowgirl, i hesitate (hesitate, but do not fail) to recommend this , but why not suggest that he not be a girl and just change his lightbulbs? He has to take the batteries out - yeah, so? Job will be the same after he watches someone else do it.

And that's me being nice about it.

LOL I'll pass that on to him. he just didnt want the hassle of taking everything out so I told him I would ask and see if there was an easy way to do it that he didnt know about. This is a small hick town and it wouldnt be a problem for him to watch how they do it BTW

(and yes I am a girl, not some guy under cover under a girls name so as not to look stupid LOL)

I'm off to work now, thanks for the suggestion :)

Why would you want the cheap blue bulbs anyway? They are almost impossible to aim and are irritating to other drivers on the road. IIRC on my 2005 F150 the headlight fixture came out with a few screws, may be easier than removing the battery and anything else that may be in the way. good luck though

A note on the high intensity blue bulbs. A friend of mine switched over to them and one exploded in the headlight housing. Solution...new headlight housing at $200 at the dealer. If you don't want this to happen, you should clean the glass part of the bulbs with alcohol and driy them with a lint free cloth. The oil from your hands will make the bulb overheat and it will explode in your headlight housing. Btw standard halogen bulbs aren't as bright, but put out as much or more light as one of the blue bulbs.
