'98 CVPI Rear End

I need to replace the rear end in my 98 CVPI. I'm having trouble locating somewhere that has a used one off of the same car. What other years or models will fit without much trouble or fabricating? And if it comes down to, how hard is it to replace the gears (considering it has traction control)?

I believe from 98 to 02 will interchange easily. The gears are not that hard if that is all you are replacing. Ring and pinion and spiders are still just remove , replace and adjust.

way2old,

I checked the rear end fluid on my '98 with 138K and it's full. The rear end does not make any noise.

My owners manual says the factory fluid is full synthetic and only requires changing if the fluid gets water in it. Do you change the rear end fluid on your P71's, or can I leave it alone?

If you have full synthetic grease, there is no need to change it. However, if the vehicle has been run through deep water, there has been water intrusion and needs to be changed. We change ours about every 30k miles since Police do not what the sign "HIGH WATER" means. Have fun.
