2005 grand am shakes

hello;new to this site.i have a 2005 grand am.gets a front end shake when letting off gas;after accelerating.does not occur while braking.wheels are balanced and brakes and rotors are brand new.thinking wheel bearing.any input?

Probably not a wheel bearing... it would be making one helluva growling or squealing noise if it was that loose, but check them anyway.

Since you said pads and rotors are new, check that everything is tight that was taken apart. Also check the A-arm bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, and make sure the CV shafts are tight.

thanks for the response.everything checked out when i did the brakes.ball joints,tie rods and stabilizer bar bushings are in good shape.bought this car about a year ago from a dealership.think it was smacked on the passenger side;which is where shake and noise are coming from.possible that an impact may have weakened bearing;not showing signs of wear until now?axle and cv check out as well.

Sounds like an engine or trany mount is bad/broken.

That would be about the only thing I could see causing shaking when decelerating.

If it was hit hard on a wheel it could damage a bearing and not make any grinding noise.
Like J-Ri said it could also be your lower control are bushings a damaged but you'd notice the noise when turning or moving up and down inclines.
Being a 2005 you should not hav any problems with anything unless it was damaged in the accident.

have you taken it to a body or suspension shop ?
They should be able to identify your troubles.

ps- you did install the break pads with the wear indicators on the inside of the rotors ???

took to a mechanic.found nothing wrong.told me he thought it might be a broken belt in a tire.gonna try new tires.

Use the spare tire in the trunk :dunno: rather buy a new tire... if you're going that route... it wouldnt make a real difference new-vs-spare..

a quick drive around the block would more than likely be able to let you know if the tire is at fault

Does he think there is a broken belt, or does he think the problem is caused by a belt that is broken? If a belt is broken, it will cause a shake, but usually all the time. I agree, if it's a "lets try...", check using the spare. And if he has a balancer, it's VERY easy to see if a belt is broken. Even spining a wheel while it's jacked up will usually show it.
