seems I have a leak from underneath and its saturating the carpet psngr side rear... defiantely coming from underneath- and seems to be origniating from near the hump which separates the L/R side of the car. Are there any drain plugs or perhaps bolts that go through to the outside form underneath that might be leaking- i see the seat/seat belt is obviouosy bolted down - any advice is appreciated... 1999 well maintained Le Sabre- even has undercoating - I looked underneath but didnt see anything obvious.... thanks all!

Is the front carpet wet anywhere? I'm assuming you don't have sunroof drains that might be leaking since you didn't mention sunroof.

The most likely source is a leak around the door. It might be a break in the rubber seal that goes against the frame metal of the door opening. It might be poor contact on a portion of it.

But most likely is a leak through the door. Rain water gets in around the outside seals on the glass area. That water goes down into the door and is kept from the inside by a plastic shield layer that is glued to the metal with a butyl-like caulk. If the door panels have been off, that may not be sealed any longer. The caulk may just have dried up and leet go of the plastic. Water gets into the car; you'll see a drip on the doorsill close to the inside and the water runs down under the carpet.

Also assume the front door could be a source of your leak and the water runs to the back.

Hi- no the front carpet is dry and no sunroof... seals around the door look fine but I hear what your saying re the glass seals... the door penels have never been off.. again.. the water is pooling right at the bolt that holds the seatbelt assembly and metal seat runner deal on the psngr side... I also noted wetness but not nearly as bad on the opposite bolt area right behind the drivers side- I guess the water culd be pooling there but its almost as though this is where the water is coming from.. ?? Who knows theough whats happening under the carpet and underlay. Incidentally, I pulled the bolts out on the w/e and resealed them as the bolt hole does expose to the outside - no chance the water is coming in from there now even if it was origianlly which is unlikley... I'm tempted to pull ( or try and do this ) the carpet back and see if that will tell me anything.. again-would there be a drain plug or something else that could be causing this... unlikely the door when I'm getting wetness on both the psngr and now drivers rear seat feet area...and the two areas separated by a big hump in the body?? :banghead:

really need some help here and appreciate your time

I do not if this will help, but my Lesabre was doing the same thing while driving it in rain/wet roads. Come to find out the right rear wheel well was rotted a bit and the water was coming in from behind the back seat-the seat back to be specific. Only the right rear floor pan would be wet. I took the back seat out, got some fiberglass and patched the small hole and the well. Also I live in the rust belt so......

This is the first time I've read of a rusted through rear wheel well. Thanks for posting that.

I assume you're in Michigan from your user name. I can see salt in your history from roads.

Our Bonneville has the same problem with the wheel wells rusting and leaking into the back foot wells. Well it did have that problem...I fixed it. It is a 98.
