I hear a roar when my car reaches 70 mph. Someone told me it was the tires. Could it be something else?

What kind of roar? Where is the roar comong from? Does the roar stay the same with any more increase in speed? We need more information to help you. Roaring can be caused from a lot of different things. Tires, bearings, wind noise, something loose and flapping. List keeps going.

The roar starts around 70mph. It's kind of like a muffling sound. The bearings are fine according to Firestone car care center as of today. They think it may be the tires.

Is it a constant roar or a "thrumming" resonancs type of noise? If resonating, check the drive shaft for balance. If it is a constant noise, tires are a possibility. If possible, have them road force balanced. Cost is a little more, but well worth it.

Don't know if all shops have the road force balancing. But like you said, its well worht the extra cost IMO.

What kind of tires do you have? What is their condition?

Does the roar change pitch when you steer left versus right? If yes, it could be the same thing has happened on my 1999 Expedition - complete failure of the wheel bearings. The tires are so large and the wheel well seems to amplify the sound, so it's not the humming you normally expect from failed bearings.
