I have a '96 Grand AM S/E with a 3100 SFI, with these modifications:
*Performance Bodies Cowl Induction Hood Scoop
*Birdsong Motor Sports Custom Cold Air Intake
*Birdsong Motor Sports Custom Strut Tower Bar
*Equus Water Temp Gauge
*Faze Single A-Pillar Gauge Pod
*Pilot Spider-Skull Pedals
*Flowmaster 40 series Cat back with 4" slant tip
*Stoptech Brake Pads
*Specter Vacuum Lines (Red)
*Specter High Flow Throttle Body
*Specter High Flow MAF
*Comp Cams Roller Cam .478/.475
*Accel 8.8mm Plug Wires (Red)
*Bosch Platinum+4 Spark Plugs
*MSD Coil-packs
*Hypertech tuned Chip
*Sony AM/FM/CD Player
*Sony Speakers 6" Front-6"x9" Rear
Dynoed at 316 HP/320 Ft-lbs

Just wondering what all will happen if I cut the cat out?
How Much will it hurt my gas mileage?

For some ungodly reason, I still get around 20 city and 31-33 highway.
I don't care about the emission laws, my guy will pass it for me.

Welcome to AF.

It would be louder with out the cat. You wont see any HP gains and you might get a service light on.

What other Mods do you have to get 316 HP out of a 3.1 ??

Cause I have a heavily moded 3.4 and I'm not even close to that, thats with 22# injectors and stage 2 heads/cam/intake & headers.

and Good luck on the emissions

It had some work done to it by the original owner, he says its got .030 over KB's and it was blue printed. The heads were off recently, having some broke exhaust bolts removed, and the machine shop said the heads were aftermarket with Intake: 1.740 (.022 over stock) and Exhaust: 1.445 (.020 over stock) valves, at the same time, I found out that the pistons are at least 2 VR, I didn't measure them or anything. Mine has Accel injectors and will run fair on 99 octane...runs best with purple racing gas...but that stuff is nearly $6 a gallon at the dirt track...it wont even start with 96 octane...original owner also says its got a Holley fuel pump, but again, I havent looked...

The car was dynoed on Jan 15 on Carol's Racing Engines dyno, he also retuned the chip for me...

The one near lubbock does racing engines and full machining, with complete streetstock 355's starting @ $5000 and 403 starting @ $7000, done the 350 for my '83 Cutlass streetstock in '05, lasted for most of the season...

You may get worse gas mileage without a cat. If you remove it, the check engine light WILL come on because of high sensor activity. If the check engine light is on, in my experience, you will get worse mileage because the computer defaults to programmed tables for fuel delivery and doesn't go off of sensor readings. I had one hell of a hard time while experimenting with improving the gas mileage on my Beretta. Not to mention the HUGE fine you get for removing a catalytic converter if you get caught and the fact that you are intentionally polluting, and actually going out of your way to do so.

Why do you have cowl induction AND a cold air intake? I think one does the other...

Vacuum lines, plug wires (reguardless of color), spark plugs, and coil packs are usually considered maintenance.

I'd love to see that dyno slip

:iagree:

I was going to ask the same question.
The only reason I could think of is to cool the engine bay.
Thats about the only reason I would want a functional hood.

Should drop upper intake temps during those cool evenings. :D
