1999 5.3 MAF test?

I've been checking this forum on 5.3 hesitation problems and ran across the post on K+N filter oil getting on the mass air sensor. I have a K+N filter element in the truck. When I clean and reoil the filter I've noticed oil on the MAF sensor. I've cleaned it with contact cleaner and alcohol. My truck only hesitates when the motor is cold, and the outside temperature is between 35 and 60, and humid. I've changed plugs, fuel filter, and fuel pressure regulator. Every time I change or clean something it seems to work untill the conditions are right and it happens again. The truck has 66000 miles and it's been happening for about 3 years. How do you test the MAF sensor? I hate just changing parts for no reason. Thanks.

Welcome to AF, many things can cause this, a full scan should be done to check all sensor inputs, such as maf inputs, fuel trims and temp sensor inputs, starting from a cold start. Also the fuel filter should be replaced if is older than 30k. Step one in the diagnostic procedures, may also want to check for 60-65 psi fuel press.

Nice MOPAR. Do I check fuel pressure at the shrader valve? I can borrow a snapon scanner, but my truck never had a check engine light, also it dosn't communicate with the state emision computer, so it probably won't talk to the scanner either. If it's a wiring problem, I can fix it, if it's the computer, it ain't gettin fixed. Never really looked at it. Do you know where to get a wiring diagram of the test connector? I wondered if you could test the MAF sensor with a meter?
