Water noise when it rains

Last year, after a snowfall, I caught a rock (they sand the roads here when it snows) and had to have my windshield replaced. Ever since then, every time it rains or I wash my car, I will get a water noise between 40-50+ mph. Sounds like gulping...(gulp, gulp, gulp, etc). It will go away if I reduce speed or if it was just a carwash bringing on the water, it will go away when the water dries. I had the company who replaced the windshield try to repair this...they added extra sealant around the windshield and even removed/reinstalled the windshield. I am not getting any water in the car, though, that I know of. I took off the wipers and the grille underneath. There are about 3 or 4 cutouts there and one of them has a plug (just left of center). The others have no plugs and if you stick your fingers down the holes, there are flaps (I presume to let water drain out). I am suspecting that there is something wrong with the flap on the driver side, closest to the fender...that is where the gulping sound is coming from. I checked with the dealer and they only show the plug that my car already has, no plugs for the remaining holes.

Does anybody have any experience with this or any suggestions to correct this? Are there supposed to be plugs for the other holes?

If I were still living in the desert, this could be something I can live with...but living in the rainy Pacific Northwest, I hear this sound for months on end. :banghead:

Leave it to the folks in the "Pacific Northwest" to come up with something like this! Never heard of this particular problem where I live, but we do have problems with the A/C "flapper" clogging with debris in the summer. This leads to build up of water in the A/C box. Normally, the fix for that is; to poke an object through the flap to dislodge any debris and the water comes pouring out!
Good luck with yours! :lol2:

Yeah, things are a little different here. :grinyes: Cars that don't get driven often enough get moss growing on them. It's not uncommon to see a white car with a black/green tinge driving down the street. My 85 Town Car used to turn green around the vinyl roof mouldings in the winter. :shakehead

The A/C drain getting clogged happened to my 95 Roadmaster, that was a mess. But this is definitely not it. I'm wondering what will happen if the flaps aren't tight...it appears to be just a way for water to drain from the windshield area through the cowl. I don't know if the flap is the cause and if so, if it is because it's not letting the water drain or if it's not staying tight at speed. I'm thinking of putting a magnet in the way to pry the flap open temporarily and see if that works.
