F150 alignment cams?

I have a 2002 Ford F150 4WD 5.4 liter engine with 125,00 miles. I just replaced the idler arm & took it to the shop to get a front end alignment. I was told by the shop that the alignment could not be done because the vehicle did not come with alignment cams & would charge $220 to do the job. I have not heard of a vehicle that did not come with cams. Are they hard to install, do they require special tools & would it worth it to do the repair myself? I have to check on price & availability of parts yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Most vehicles do not have the cams installed, from factory there are lock plates. The plates have to be removed and the bolts discarded, and then the new cam bolts can be installed. After all this then the alignment can be done. The cams are a tool to assist in adjusting camber and caster. They are required.
