i just replaced starter in this vehicle and to remove starter i had to disconnect the passenger side motor mount and jact up engine to get it out . this is a p.i.t.a. is there anyone who knows of another easier way? thanks to all.........

as i jacked up passenger side of transfer case i noticed that the transmission mount is totally gone. i still needed to remove the motor mount bolt on passenger side. so this is a very tight fit and i was surprised that all this was required to r/r starter.....have you ever replaced starter in this type of vehicle? i was thinking that maybe the motor is sitting too low

was in a 2WD when i did it, but just unbolted tranny mount and made it tons easier. but of course this was on a lift with a screw jack, but was still pretty easy this way.

well it was the transfer case that prevented the removal. i did not mention it but the motor mount bolt was a little loose and the hole looked elongated.....not a lot but still not round. on another car i owned which i had for 17yrs, this occured and what i did was file out hole so that the next larger size bolt would fit,

Sometimes removing or taking the bolts out of the transmission dust/splash cover helps.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YA'LL, BUT I FOUND IF I REMOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL, IT GAVE ME A CLEAR SHOT AT ALLL THE BOLTS, AND NUTS NECCESSARY TO REMOVE THE STARTER. GRANTED, IT WAS ON A 89 S10, BUT I WOULD THINK IT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE SAME FOR A 94

getting the hardware off was the easy part all came off with not much effort..... it was physically removing the starter motor from vehicle the damm thing was trapped between the engine , frame, and transfercase.... 5sp manual tranny......so i had passenger side motor mount and transmission mount disconnected and then jacking up passenger side of engine/tranfercase i just barely got it out and of course slipped in the new one.....thank god it didn't need to be shimmed......

yes. best left to a GOOD garage and mechanic. I did. Do this before it dies, as I did at 20 yrs of starter service, before our -30c winter lilled it. Mechanic said he removed right side of crossmember tranny support, with support to tranny, to let it drop an inch, then was able to remove and reinstall new one. 2 hrs labor.

Edit : However, I don't recommend it as front tranny shaft seal has leaked since. Too much pressure on those old hard dry rubber seal rings I guess.

What has helped limit leak a lot is the "Wynns" tranny ring seal rubber rejuvinator fluid added to tranny fluid.

THANKS FOR YOU REPLY I have already completed this repair and it took about 2hrs.... I'm just looking for any suggestions as to remove this starter for future use as I was supprised at how tight this was.. also 5 speed manual tranny thanks again.....
