Hey everyone,

Ok, I had bought a F-150 ext. cab last year, this truck had become the LOVE OF MY F*CKING LIFE! After getting in a car accident last tuesday(rear ended someone) the air bags had popped out, and drivers side bumper became detached and was pushed into my wheel(did not puncture) I also had noticed what i THINK was transmission fluid leaking from underneath the passenger bumper. My insurance is taking FOREVER to pick up my truck from the tow yard and quote me on a price, without even seeing the vehicle they have gave opinions that my truck is most likely totalled. But the damage its self didnt look bad at all, I know the airbags are hella expensive, and i will need a new bumper, but does anyone have an idea why the transmission was leaking ? if so are we talking expensive?

Any opinions on whether you think my truck will be totalled or fixable based off this information would help calm me down for the time being also,

thank you!

your truck had an automatic trans and the fluid goes to the radiator to get cooled and when you hit the other vehicle and crushed the radiator it leaked trans fluid out of the radiator or cooling lines from the trans.

In addition to what rockwood said, the fluid could have been from the power steering system. It also uses automatic transmission fluid. The shock of the impact could have burst a power steering hose. What year is the truck? Not to be nosy, but how much did you pay for the truck? The actual value of the truck(in a repaired condition) would determine whether or not they would consider the truck totalled. If they were to consider the truck totalled, you might be able to buy the truck back from the insurance company and then have it fixed with your insurance money. If you knew how much it would cost to have the truck repaired(body damage as well as the damage causing the fluid leak etc.) before you dealt with the insurance co. you would be forewarned FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED. You would have to stand any deductible on your insurance. Just don't sign any settlement papers until you are satisfied with the settlement.
