99 gmc 5.7 1500 4x4 ext. cab short box

I pull race cars all summer long and want to know the best way to keep my rear-end from sagging so much. I was thinking either helper spring or air bags. Dont really have money for bags but I havent really heard if helpers work or not.

head in to a good spring shop and talk to them, new springs or a recurve or add a leaf or two, air shocks? just some ideas for you. 463

Go to your nearest wrecking yard and get a couple of leaf springs.Add leaves to your current leaf springs of the ones you get from the wrecking yard.You need to buy a couple of new centerbolts and 4 new U bolts.Use the old u bolts to get new longer u bolts.My father does it all the time and luckily get the leaf springs from the wrecking yard since he gives the owner of the yard junk cars once a while.

I agree that adding 1 or 2 rear spring leafs is the best way. We had to to do that all the time with out work trucks on the DOT survey crews. The bean counters always bought us 1/2 ton 4x4's and we really needed 3/4 tons. So we would have 2 extra leafs put in the rear springs and the trucks were fine to haul around 1000 lbs of gear and still pull a 5,000 trialer with a Ford 5.0L engine, allbeit very slowly. Just make sure you insist the shop make it so the truck does not ride higher than stock, progressive spring rate I beleive it what they referred to it as. This shop built springs of all kinds up to logging trucks etc.

I can't recall how much it cost, just told them to send the bill to someone else.

I went with the bag you should find them for aprox. 300.00 ,the good thing about bags you lower the pressure and your ride is not affected.I've used them for a few years never had a leak works great with my float loaded and in winter i put a ton of salt with no problem.

ok thanks. Both ways sound easy and not to expensive. I'll just wait for my tax return and go buy.
