'99 Ford Contour- Died while turning and will not startkg321 01-23-2008, 01:19 AM Have a 1999, Ford Contour, 4 cyc. When I was making a turn, the engine shut down and vehicle coasted to a stop. Could not restart. Would act like it wanted to start but would not turn over. Now, earlier that day, I replaced the A/C relay, in which the heat and air now work properly. Was it just a coincidence that the vehicle broke down or could I have done something??? I checked to ensure all the fuses and relays in box were in good under drivers side. I checked reset inertia switch. I hear fuel pump when I turn engine on and fuel pump stays on for a couple of seconds. I browsed for any loose wires under hood and pushed on all to make sure. Any ideas what best possible problems may be? thx....kg kg321 01-24-2008, 04:45 PM update....replaced fuel filter. check coil pack- got spark from plug cleaned spark plugs. tried spraying starting fuild in carb. pulled off timing belt cover but not sure what I'm looking for; The belt doesn't look torn and is on tight When trying to start car, the timing belt or nothing in the area turns. Is it supposed to turn when tring to turn car on. Also, when I start after sitting awhile, it will make a pop at the carb area and smoke a little. But after that, when starting again, it does not. Any ideas. Need help. thx.....kg kg321 02-05-2008, 05:31 PM checked error codes and have error code P1383. What does this mean I should look for? Timing belt and pulleys do not turn when I crank car. I tried to manually turn pulley to timing belt and will only turn about 3 inches. Should it turn manually? What else can I check for, as I'm still not sure what the problem is? thanks for any help.....kg beyondloadedSE 02-05-2008, 08:35 PM Yes, your crankshaft and pulleys should all turn when trying to start the car. Btw, in case you want to read on the P1383, heres a post I found on contour.org. http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=trouble&Number=1002871&Forum=trouble&Words=P1383&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=2500&Old=allposts&Main=1002871&Search=true#Post1002871 kg321 02-19-2008, 10:39 PM fyi....It was the timing belt. Timing belt replaced and now runs fine. JoeShmoe 02-26-2008, 01:28 PM fyi....It was the timing belt. Timing belt replaced and now runs fine. Were your valves good? Nukkeldragr 10-19-2008, 10:59 PM Just don't make any more turns, and you should be fine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
