AC/Heater Control Switch

I have a 95 Grand Am SE and I have a problem (go figure)... My climate control doesn't seem to work. It will switch to the off position, and turn off. But when you turn it to any other function it will then only blow out of the mid level dash outlets. I took off my glove box and checked the connections for the control to the flaps, and it all looks good, nothing unhooked... Plus the AC doesn't work. It did back in the summer time.. Any help will be great. Thanks!

The mode doors are vacuum operated. There is a vacum hose that runs in through the firewall on the drivers side. Disconnect it and check for vacuum. If no vacuum, start moving toward the engine. If it has vacuum where you check it, move towards the HVAC stuff. A common spot for the hose to crack is near the battery. The mode should default to the defrost position if vacuum is lost, so a door or actuator may be stuck.

The A/C not working is probably not related. Check the A/C line pressures. Check to see if the compressor clutch is cycling. If it is, check the temperature blend door. If it's not, see if it's being commanded on.

I checked under the hood a few seconds ago and I couldnt get the vacuum line unhooked to check it. There was no cracks that I could see. Oh, this might help, idk... --I just had my transmission gone through about a month ago due to the orfice in the lock up solonoid. Could he had unhooked something and forgot to hook it back. Everything was working before I got it worked on. I also had to replace the radiator due to a crack, welcome to the world of GA lol. More problems than my supra.

In a car this old, the vacuum lines usually pull apart very hard. Twist while you pull and you should be able to get it. You may need to replace sections of it due to breaking, but if it breaks when you remove it, it needed to be replaced anyway.

It's very possible that he forgot something. I'd be lying if I said I'd never forgotten to reconnect something, especially because of how close the hose/line runs to the transmission. It's also possible that a brittle line/hose cracked when he moved it. You may want to take it back and ask him to recheck his work. A good technician will be happy to correct a mistake. You mean it worked on the way to the shop and not on the way home?

G/As are great cars. IMO the only thing better about a toyota is that the plastic trim doesn't squeak/rattle as it gets old :)

Thiers also a cable that drives the blend door on this model GA.
This link (http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/0e/59/22/0900823d800e5922/repairInfoPages.htm)might help you out.

I dont realy see the transmission work affecting this becuase all the vacum lines are up higher.

I found out what it was. My old battery was screwed and leaked battery acid everywhere and it melted the vacumme line so i cut it and used one off my old supra motor and it works great now.

I always forget about those vacum lines running under the battery, bad location IMO.
Glad you got it fixed though, been a little to cold to go without heat. :)

I was lucky, the heat worked perfect besides the fact I could not change the controls. Only blew hot out the mid vents lol. But now its perfect. One more questions assoicated with these vacum lines. I fixed it and now it seems like I get more gas mileage. I'm not complaining since I was getting 15 mpg..... But now its like 24 or so. I wonder why.
