one of the the (passenger side) freeze plugs on my 2000 exploder XLS is leaking coolant. I believe its the center one. The truck has 140k miles on it. This leak is pretty small i guess beccasue it takes awhile to empty the coolant bottle but the truck always smells like coolant.

We are planning to trade it summer of 2009. I will purchase no more american cars.

Is this worth fixing?

If you do not repair it, it will eventually get bad enough to blow all the way out and lose all the coolant. So I would repair it while it is able to drive. If the vehicle is 7 years old with 140k miles and all you have is a small coolant leak, I would say that is no problem at all.

Hey thanks for the good reply. Dude above must not know that Chevy is an american car. Anyway, is the worse case scenario that it will actually "blow" out? I believe that the coolant odor is steam coming from that plug. The system will not pressure up becasue of this leak.

This is a big labor cost and want to guage the best course of action. It won't be worth more next summer whether the plug is leaking or not. That being said it would'nt it be foolish fix it?

If the plug blows, there is possibility the engine can get hoe enough to lock up. Then you wont have anything to sell. Just the body. The labor should not be all that high to replace a freeze plug. I would invest in the repair if you want to keep it another year. But it is your ride and your call.
