03 Grand Am Fuel Gauge problem

I just got my 03 Grand Am, 4 cylinder last week(my parents got it for me) and the gas gauge was a little above full when I got it home. I've driven in it a total of approximately 2 hours in the city, and one and a half hours on the highway. The gauge has not moved at all. When I start the car, the gauge does the normal full to empty to full, but never goes down. When I was test driving the car, the gas was so low that the fuel light came on. Does anyone have any recomendations as to what to do about this, or how much it will cost?

-Thanks!

Welcome to AF.

Sounds like the fuel level sending unit has gone bad.

Pretty sure it's a dealer only part for your 2003.
GM parts direct lists- Level sensor 01-05 $70.32
