99 grand am SE blower motor problem

its kinda weird, everything was working fine then couple days ago sounded like the blower motor would "bog" down and speeds would flucuate.Today it would stop all together for a couple minutes then come on for a few, then off and on etc etc etc. Checked the Module in the fuse box under the hood all connectors looked in good shape. Opened up the passanger door the last time it shut off and smacked the kickplate where blower motor rests. Kicked in and worked fine again. First smack it kicked in, 2nd smack it went a little faster, 3rd went to full speed. Seems to be ok for now. Just wondering if anyone has an idea on what would be causeing the issues with it. Is it the resister card acting up or maybe motor on the way out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

edit: all speed selelections work fine when motor is running, even when it bogs down i can stil change the speeds.

Sounds like the motor is goin bad , might need some lubrication, though I dont know if they are all servicable.

Best way to find out is remove the blower motor and test it with direct battery power with jumper wires.

Here is a link with the removale procedure, if you need it.
Blower Motor & Resistor Removal - 99+ Grand Am (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=665246)

Though, if your blower motor resistor has not been changed, that too could also be causing some issues.
When you pull the motor, you should be able to see the resistor, should look like the new one in the above link.

Hope that helps.

ps- make sure you HVAC drain is not clogged.
