2001 Gr Am - After Market Remote Start

I have a 2001 Grand Am which has the security problem. I have an after-market remote start (Valet, Model RPN471T) which was installed several years ago. To make a long story short…I followed the instructions on this site and disabled the security system and installed a switch. I know I have done the procedure correctly. However, the security system sometimes enables itself and I don’t know why but I’m thinking maybe it’s the after-market remote start. I want to eliminate the possibility of a faulty remote start...unless you can think of another reason the security system would reactivate itself.

So my question is: How do I disable an after-marker Valet remote start? They want too much money at several shops that say they can do it.

My 2nd question: If you have any ideas as to why the security system is reactivating itself other than the after-market remote start, please let me know.

I'm posting my email address here (penny.ante@yahoo.com) because I'm not sure if I will be able to get back to this post. I've never posted before and I dont even know if I'm in the right area for my post.

Thanks ahead of time!

I got a couple responses to my post but I dont see an answer specifically to my questions.

My car ALWAYS starts with the remote start but I dont want to have to rely on that.

Can you tell me: if the car will ALWAYS start with remote start, it can't be bypassing the fuel pump, correct? So wouldnt that mean that the problem is not the fuel pump?

Do you know if there is a way to disable my after-market remote start?

Do you know how to remove it properly?

Before pumping a lot of money into this, I think I need to eliminate the possibility of a faulty remote start, don't I?

My email address is penny.ante@yahoo.com

Thanks for helping

I'm sorry..I dont mean "I don't see an answer specifically to my questions". That sounds wrong. What I do mean is that I don't see an answer specifically to my problem. I do want ideas and suggestions. I appreciate any help from anyone on this. If you need to ask me questions in order to help, I'll answer right away.

Thanks!!

And I know I'm posting in a "reply" area but I don't know where else to put this LOL

I wouldn't waste time messing with the remote start. You already said that it starts the car fine everytime so that should rule out a faulty remote start. It could however, be the install of the bypass???? Most likely though is a problem with the PK2 decoder that's in the ignition because those have a very high failure rate in G-ams.

If the remote start was improperly installed to begin with, could it be what is reactivating the security system on my car? I don't care if I ever use the remote start...I want to always start the car with the key. I installed everything correctly with the toggle switch, but the security system gets reactivated when I turn off the car. I understand that there might be a fuse in the harness of the remote start module. If I removed that fuse, maybe that will disable the remote start and I could start the car with the key.

:iagree:
It could be the install of the remote starter :dunno:
I would agree with the ignition switchs being a big problem with GM cars(in general).

You might try finding a user manual for the Valet starter to see if it could be disabled, though it could make your problems with starting worse.

Also, if you have a bunch of stuff hanging on your key chain, that will cause the security/passlock to trip because the weight pulls the connection in the ignition switch loose.

Hope that helps and Good Luck

I only have two keys on my keyring...my house key which is light enough and my car key. I dont even have the remote start hanging on the keychain. So weight probably isnt a factor.

But I am looking for the manual for DEI Valet, remote start module 5551L using the 471T transmitter (I think they call it a transmitter...the two-button thingy that I start the car with). I have the installation manual but cannot find the user guide.

Thanks again.
