91 Turbo 2.0L 5 Speed Manual Trans.

The egine cuts out @ 5000RPM, I am assuming it is the fuel cut. What would cause this. Air leak somewhere or is it wastegate related??

Thanks for any advice

Is it stock or modded? If so, what mods?

Neigbors car. No mods that I am aware of. The caps went bad on the ECU lately, geeted the ECU rebuilt now (non eprom). Has high idle at start up and surging idle until warm I have been told.

Thanks

A stock car should not get fuel cut. Have you done a boost leak test?

I think most cars have a little idle surge when they are cold. If it stops when warmed up then I wouldn't worry about it.

When a stock old ass 1g starts surging, first things that come to mind are failed or misadjusted throttle closed switch and bad ISC. For fuel cut, the boost leak test is the best suggestion for a good start (might even accidentally fix the idle surge by fixing any post TB leaks).

Thanks for advice on Boost Leak Test. Never done this before so I will search for details on how to do this.
Where is the throttle closed switch?
I have checked ISC with a ohm meter and got 26.6 ohm's on all 4 tests.

It's a switch on the far (firewall) side of the TB, single green wire IIRC. The switch is NO, and when closed provides a ground through the TB. Make sure the ground wire is attached to the throttle cable bracket from the firewall.

Thanks, I will check the wire and make up a boost leakdown tester and test when the weather gets a bit warmer here in WI. I post results.
