1985 chevy s-10 motor swapdragon_kin01 01-14-2008, 12:34 AM Heres the run down. I got an '85 S-10 Pick-up with the 1.9l 4 banger, 4 spd 77.5 mm manual tranny. The baby of s-10. I want more power from the truck by swaping motors. No truck on this planet should have 84 horses and 101 ft. lbs. of torque. I've debated a long time on what motor and found 2. The factory 4.3 v6 or a 4.3 (265 CID) V8 baby LT1. my questions are.... 1. Would I have to modify the frame at all to accomidate the new motor mounts? 2. What would be the best 5 sp manual tranny for either motor and where would i find it? 3. Would I have to upgrade the rear end? If so, with what? And if all esle fails, what can i do to the 1.9 to get some more balls out of it? 72chevelleOhio 01-14-2008, 05:18 AM I've put several v8's in s10's, only had to drill holes (depending on setup) in the frame for the mounts. no major frame work. I know the steering shaft will need attention..it will rub if you use manifolds even on the 4.3 since yours is older. Any 5 speed to fit a v8 or 4.3 will cost about as much as a running driveable s10 in my area. If the rear end is good now, it will be fine for the engines you listed. I'm thinking they only made the 1.9 s10 for 3 years and some parts are specific to that year, not interchangeable, if I remember right. Maybe that was just the diesel, someone on here will remind me I'm sure... dragon_kin01 01-15-2008, 12:43 PM ok i have made my desision. the 4.3 262 v6 that it could come factory. i have yet another delema. the fuel delivery system now is a mechancical pump mounted to the cam shaft. what fuel system would be best for the 262 and how would i put it in? (the 262 will have a 4 bbl carb) also with CFM 4 bbl carb ould be best? dragon_kin01 01-22-2008, 11:33 PM ok i have done a bit more of deliberatiung and had a few people at tracks give me some pointers and have set me sights on s different motor. one that will be easier to get in . rather the 262 4.3 v6 id like to get for the base power, ive desided on the 173 2.8 v6 for the simplicity. plus i can get a borg and warner T5 tranny that should bolt right to the current trany mount. the engine monuts should be easier to get in with a couple of new holes and tapped. Now the problem is fuel delivery. i still havent found a good system that would be best. and wht CFM 4 bl carb would be best? also, where would i get a Borg warner T5? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
