I have a 1987 ford 250 with a 460 engine. It will just die while driving and be very hard to start and when it does it will only go about 40 feet until it dies again any good advice on input is very much welcome thanks.

Is this the engine that came in the truck from the factory? Is it fuel injected? I was thinking I read there were no fuel injected 460s. At any rate you need to try and determine if you have a fuel delivery problem or an ignition problem. Have you changed the fuel filter? Maybe it's the coil or the ignition module. I would try to determine if you have spark(ignition) when it quits and is hard to start. How far do you normally drive before it quits the first time?
