Gas pump shuts off after putting in small amount of gas like tank is full. Takes forever to put gas in van. any ideas for the reason this is happening?

This happens to me sometimes, what usually helps is not to push the nozzle in all the way and holding the filler handle in that position.

I've found this problem only at the Chevron stations (all of them) in my area. All other stations (Valero, Buckees, Shell, Exxon, etc.) that I use work just fine. I take my 92 truck to Chevron with no problems, but my 99 Venture I have to sit there and hold the lever to reset it when it kicks off. I never know when it is actually full.

In my area it is the combination of a 99 Venture van and a Chevron gas pump. I have no idea what makes this combination uniquely annoying.

there is a flap in the fillerneck that bounces the gas back on the pump nozzle cut -off spring . i only put the nozzle in the neck just enough to keep the gas from spraying back.

The evaporative emissions system may not be working properly also. Sometimes a pinched vent tube can allow a buildup of fumes and trigger the nozzle to stop. Awhile back I read an article that some gas stations have a different pressure on their fuel pumps and that can cause an issue with certain vehicles. The remedy was to try getting gas at different stations and see if you notice a difference.
