Hi everyone,

with everything ordered I thought I'd start my model now

revell has done a pretty good job with the car, the lines all look right and just a few minor things need to be done.

Red is to cut, Green is to sand down

I've already opened to for the fastners on the top of the car, as the revell mold was just horrid.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/7645/78qd1.jpg

I also removed the head cushin using CM PE saws

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/239/1001819iz9.jpg

onto the rear, I've already glued the air ducts and puttied them to make it molded into the cover

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8590/87ty6.jpg

you can also see what I have to cut in red.

and Revell does have some issues with the rear cover

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8002/1001823iv2.jpg

one nice thing is I have a nice little cheat cheat :D

Looking good so far Spike. I have been noticing that gap on several people's models of the R10. I've seen a couple of ways to fix it such as adding sheet plastic. I'm curious if it is just bent on most peoples and some heat might fix it. I've gone as far as thinking about putting it in clay to get it to hold in the right spot and casting it. Hopefully I can start my curbside version soon. I will be doing a three way review of the PE sets as soon as I get my KA set. It's looking like KA has the better interior and engine stuff, while Dexter has the better vents, while Studio27 has the better radiator covers/grills.

I can only add tho his comments, it's going to be a spectacular build, no matter what.

Now to fix the gap (that's also present in my kit, unfortunately) i don't know what will work the best for you. For me, I tried putting it under relatively hot water, bending it a little, as it's quite hard plastic, even for a revell.

It did the trick just a little bit so I d suggest going with that and a little styrene sheet just cut out, and molded in easy with some sanding.

Eitherway, good luck!

Oli

I've seen the first looks from Media Mix, and they also offer PE brake :( which is kind of pointless since I'm putting the Brake Cooling pieces Dexter has over the brakes, but the pads look very big and beefy to go 24 hours, but it also seems outside of the resin pieces, the PE parts are almost the exact same as Dexters and S27 which just small amounts of other detail

I'm gonna first cut off the extra plastic mold that runs down the hoops, that what, it should give it some more flexiblility, and the real car never has that piece on the rear bonnet. then I would most likely just add styrene strips to make it flush, as that seemed to helped Zuberts Audi

quick update

still working on sanding the body, Revell made some bade mold lines on the body that are suppose to run smooth.

I'm sort of stuck right now as everything is being shipped and should all arrive within 2 weeks (received an Email from Dexter that they only shipped my decals and now will be shipping the PE and resin pieces tomorrow), SMS hopefully has shipped out my order and I got 2 orders from Media Mix that are being shipped out)

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/2769/1001829ob3.jpg

I've also noticed Revell has a sort of bad gap

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6408/1001833ka0.jpg

and a quick view of all the pieces

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9208/1001834iz3.jpg

next update maybe awhile from now until I get all my orders

update, but not much on the car.

I got many goodies to share. so here we go.

first is the KA-Models pack. this pack basically will eliminate any need to buy the Studio 27 PE parts as everything you need is in this set and more (the only thing S27 has better than the three companies is the mesh Grilles). This set also comes with some very nice resin pieces: 4 brake calipers, 2 intakes, 2 radiators, and the TV camera. The PE contains alot of stuff, the detail is excellent: the PE set contains, 4 brake disks, belt harness, rear diffuser, rear wing support, rear wing endplates, rivets (from small to Revells premolded), pedals, dashboard, toggle switchs, grilles, Emergency kill switch, tow bars, tail light detail, steering wheel detail (best of any version), mirrors, foot rest, and some others

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6589/1001890yx9.jpg

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/2770/1001889sm1.jpg

next is the Dexter Pack, this set is also very nice and has some very nice pieces. The Resin pieces are 4 cooling disks (which cover up the PE brakes :( ) and the TV camera with antenna (much better than KA's version). the PE that stands out is the side lovours (SP), KA has the whole area to cut out, while the Dexter has just the frame of the lovours. use the Dexter version as that is the only realistic version (KA cut them backwards and they stick out of the body :( ) of course I did get the presentation plate :D

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/7093/1001891cx8.jpg

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/7499/1001894jl6.jpg

the decals were sort of a blessing, Dexter emailed me saying they messed up my order and only shipped out the Decals and the R8 window mask (which I didn't order) well that came and about a week later to my surprise with the resin and PE parts, I got a second decal sheet :D

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/5149/1001895wx3.jpg

well onto the car, I've only CF the front valance of the car and I sprayed the headrest on the car, I've textured the headrest because of reference photos, all I have to do now is add some tape to both sides for the quick release cords

http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/9784/1001900vj8.jpg

enjoy and I hope the review helps out all the R10 modelers out there looking for some help with the optional detail packs

I need some warm weather so I can finally start painting

Your off to a great start on this one, looking forward to seeing your progress. One question though where did you get the KA-Models pack? I have the Dexter's PE set, but would really like to add the intakes to the engine bay along with all the other pieces that come with the pack. Thanks.

sorry I missed your comment, I'm not sure yet on which silver to whose but I have alot of different silvers to test and see which one is right.

I bought the kit from MediaMix Hobby

they unfortunantly sold out very quickly, but when browsing I noticed they added it and quickly bought it, they are a great site and highly recommend their service

Very nice CF. Ive never bought CF decals (Im new at this). From looking around I see theres many different types. What ones did you get, and where from? Is only one sheet needed, or more? Also, its it water slide-able? lol

Ive been struggling with the louvers from the dexter kit, Im still on the first grill peice. It wont fit in its slot and stick out at the same time, dont know what to do...might have to use the KA peice....much easier!

Spike2933

I bought the CF decals from Scale Motorsport

www.scalemotorsport.com (http://www.scalemotorsport.com)

they are great decals, and are only 8 dollars a sheet, and with careful templetes, you can use alot for one sheet. the decals are water slide, but its also very good to use Micro sol/set, or Solvaset (which I actually like better)

I've yet to take on the side lovours yet, but will be doing them this weekend.

Did you file the spokes down by hand? Why do the Revell spokes tend to look like wagon wheels? (I think someone on this board described them like that :grinyes:)

Zurbert82
02-07-2008, 06:25 PM
Those look like totally different wheels, or he's insane and somehow shaped the Revell wheels. If those are indeed different wheels, where did you get them? I'm currently stuck with the Revell wagon wheels. :(

Spike2933

I am tuned to this one for sure. Are you going to weather it a bit like your fine Subaru?

no, I won't weather the car, and the car was never weathered, since Audi likes to put on new pieces to make the car look clean and the rain helped wash away most of the other pick up on the car. the pic below is showing the finish, and there is hardly any gunk on the car

JTninja
02-08-2008, 01:35 AM
The wheels are hard to get right, Revells are decent, but in order to get them correct, you have to use a file and an exacto knife to get it down to this:
http://www.championracing.net/2006/archive/R82007/images/audi_motorsport-070331-0351.jpg
The SP Ozs are a very nice choice, the best for the R10.

Curious, what material did you use for the seat belts? It looks exactly like the fabric should!

Spike2933
02-08-2008, 08:39 AM
the fabric is from the Scale Motorsport Harness Set.

here are the tires done, with the Michelin and OZ decals (hard to see with the chrome) done. I used my Dremel to get the mold lin out and give the tires a little rubber feel.

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8068/1001929ew5.jpg

Started the Body, this was sprayed with TS-14 Black and TS-30 Silver Leaf. The Tow hook is from the KA-models set, the Dexter one broke off and I lost it :( (it is barely off and looks a tick cocked but I don't want to break it off and fix it as the splitter has been glued to the monocouque (sp). the small grilles on the front are also from the Dexter set

Brakes are from the KA-set again with the Dexter brake coolers covered in CF.

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/1166/1001921nv0.jpg

monocouque (sp) also now fully CF (although pics show faults, they will be covered with the plate

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/2484/1001916qi5.jpg

the interior: I started working on some of the soon to be wiring. the ECU? or some other electronic box had some molded bumps, but sanded those down and added Top Studio connectors.

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5634/1001926nc4.jpg

the bottom piece was part of a second box which Revell had to sit on the plate which was incorrect. all the tools and wiring is all under the plate (another of Revells many mistakes)

update

for the center console(much work was too be done, I used the Revell CF cause it looked very nice, the leg rest was from the Dexter PE set and sprayed with SMS Faux Fabrix (same as the seat and head rest) and SMS CF. also, thanks to cingsters pics ;) there are only 12 buttons on the console, not 16, so I cutted out the front 4. (I filled the 2 holes for the electronic boxes, and I opened the correct hole for an adaptor in the car ((view real pic)). there is still alittle work left on the console before completion.

well after being at the Ferrari show, Tommy told us to get goin for next year, I felt like the decalling mood and did the Red and Black on the beastly Audi.

when I did only the red to start, it looked very strange, but once the black went on, man does it look mean and sexy.

The body does have several modifications. using the Dexter Models PE, all the Louvers were cut out and replaced by Dexter (making the model all that sweeter, I sprayed the side Louvers TS-49 and was an exact match with the red decals, I painted the Rear Louvers TS-14 Black and after clear, you can't tell whats decal and whats paint. another is I opened up the Emergency switch which Revell never made, also is there is some type of electrical box that car #1 had right by the seat.

Renaissance CF will be used for the headlights ( I like the darker CF they use over SMS)

I really wish I got down to Chicago to meet you guys and see these great models. Anyone going to Milwaukee for NNL? I'm going come hell or high water!!!

I'm a big fan of the Turtle Wax Polishing compound (black bottle) and Turtle Wax Wax (green container with yellow clear top). My LHS doesn't carry the Tamiya stuff, and even if they did, I'm not convinced it would be that much better. I've used this over decals and never had a reaction.

Looking forward to seeing more progress!

FYI, the red is not perfect, the red brightens on each little fix and even though you can't really see it in the pics, you will be able to see them up close, I'm sort of banging my head as I should sprayed the red also.

Fantastic work! I love that black, its great looking. The red looks fine on the pc, so no worries there. Love the brakes as well. :D

Great update! I definitely have this one on my to build list. Can you post pics of the Revell brakes? I'm not in to all the aftermarket stuff; I only build box stock. Just wonderin' how bad OOB will end up?

thanks to DasWiesel, he posted what came for the R10

the R10 always runs the brake covers now (thats why there are no longer any great glowing brakes at night from the car) the covers are only 5 bucks and make a great addition

Those brake covers are also why Audi lost Sebring.

well its been a while since a last update, but I'd like to get the car done before I move, so I've decided to build it as a Curbside model, I feel that it will look better anyway by being a curbside as the Revell engine may take a year to detail. still have to add CF detail in the rear but it will be done

once again, not realizing it but the front tow hook broke off again, luckly KA has a second one.

so here are a few teaser shots (sorry for the pics, kinda rushed them).

enjoy
