What is the OEM rim width of a '97 Astro

I have a 1997 Astrovan AWD with stock steel rims and tires 215/75/15.

I'd like to mount some 245/60/15's on those rims but am concerned about the rim width and if the wider tires will pose a problem with rubbing.

What prompted me to go wider was upon looking at my tires today, I noticed the 215's had some sidewall scuffing near the tread. Looking at the footprint, I also noticed that part of the sidewall rode flat on the ground (tires inflated properly), leaving me to believe the tires were too narrow. I wanted to go 225/75/15 but the 75 series would have meant a taller tire in relation to the 225 width. A friend of mine wants to sell me a set of 245/60/15 tires but I'm concerned that these tires would be too wide for the stock rim.

So the question is what is the width of the stock steel 15" rim on my Astrovan? And if I go wider should I go 225/60/15? Or will the 245's fit with no problems?

Thanks,

Any thing wider then 6.5 on mine and the sliding door wont open without hitting the tire. But take off a wheel and look on the inside of the rim, it should tell you there.
My new(er) rims are 6.5x15 with 215/75/15, and i have no probs with the tires.

Good info paperfish there were two stock rim sizes for 97 astro's depending on the RPO one is 15X6 and the other is 15X6.5

Astros ALL ride crappy and scuff tires. Have you rotated them and checked 4 way alignment? I'd start there. my 89 is constantly geting out of wack and is murderous on tires.
FWIW, and guessing here, do you have goodyear Eagles on it?
THe tire compounds are softer and even on my parents 93 they noticed the tires prematurely wore.... GREAT traction if ya want to take hairpins at a road rally though LOL.
I switched to Generals and BF GOODRICH and the problems have all but dissapeared.

HTH ?

It made my life better.

And for the obligatory "ricer" effect... d00der ! Throw some 18 incherz on dat bad boy box yo ! :flipa:

235/70-15 will fit on your existing rims.
