CV boots for '98 blazerkramer840 01-10-2008, 11:11 AM Howdy. I got my oil changed yesterday, and I was told that my CV boots are torn and need to be taken care of pretty soon. I was wondering how much something like that would run, and if that's something that could be done by me instead of paying out the ass for labor. Thanks. old_master 01-10-2008, 06:40 PM CV boots are designed to keep grease in and dirt out. If the CV boots are torn, dirt has already entered the joints. When the joint runs low on grease, and dirt gets in, the joint needs replacement. If you replace the boot and repack the joint, it's just a matter of time before the joint will need replacement, the labor just doubled. It's cheaper, easier and faster to replace the entire half shaft, and it comes with a warranty! kramer840 01-10-2008, 06:44 PM thanks for the info. how much does something like this cost? old_master 01-10-2008, 07:02 PM Check with your local parts stores, typically they run about $50 per half shaft. Labor is around 2 hours per side. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
