4L60 question.drifttruck99 01-05-2008, 04:27 AM Does anybody know what year they started putting the 4L60 in the S10s? And how to tell them apart from 700r4s? I already know that my tranny is a 700r4 i'm just curious.:loser: blazes9395 01-05-2008, 01:50 PM The 700R4 was named the 4L60 and is identical. They are the same transmission essentially. The 4L60 was offered up to about '92-'93. Where the big difference is was between the 4L60 to the 4L60E. The "E" denoted the transmission was an electronically controlled transmission. The 4L60/700R4 were hydraulicly controlled, with the exception of an electronically controlled lock-up torque convertor. Chris Stewart 01-05-2008, 07:38 PM The 4L60 in my '92 has been a great transmission after 190K and still works good. I think as well of it as I do a Turbo 350. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
