420a cranks up WOT, no idle

I have a 1997 420a that has recently had a head gasket changed out. Now when I crank it, the engine starts and will hit the rev limiter if the key is not turned off. I have replaced the TPS and do not have any codes present. I even blocked off the intake and it still does the same thing!! Please help!

How tight is the throttle cable adjusted? Try disconnecting the throttle cable and then starting it.

Check the throttle body to see if its stuck open. If not then you have to have a MASSIVE leak on the intake somewhere. The car can't rev like that without a good bit of air. Also its not very good for the car to rev that high as soon as it starts. I would not crank it anymore until the problem is fixed.

The car wouldn't run if it was a massive air leak in the intake unless it was before the intake manifold. You'd be measuring very little air for the AFR, but you'd be dumping in tons of air through the leak. It'd probably be a 50:1 ratio or something crazy lean, and the car simply would not run, especially at WOT. But it's always good to check for intake leaks anyways.
